Hello,
Just trying to get organised for the coming winter league events so here are
the teams I have down to enter December's winter league. Please speak now if
anything here is wrong. I'd like to get the teams finalised by Monday so you
can all get a schedule at a decent time, but this involves knowing who is in
and out, now. Obviously no one will want to drop out next week (that never
happens) so consider this your friendly and final warning.
6th December - MIXED (21)
ABH (second team not confirmed)
Thundering herd x 2
Flaming Galahs x 2
Flump
Fugazees (second team not confirmed)
Choke Hazard
Golden Ants
Special Blend
Cutty Sharks
Curve
RUF
Ovathrow
PAF
Kent Touch This
Ltd Release
London Business School
LSE
UCL
Brighton
I have had some questions about gender splits. It is likely that the "top"
division will be full mixed and the other(s) will be 2/3 women on the line.
These rules are not hard and fast and we ask teams to be understanding if
their opposition is struggling (within reason). So if you are unsure if you
have enough women, then drop me a line. Whilst we want "proper" mixed
Ultimate to prevail we always want teams to come out and play whenever
possible. Especially newer ones who may not have a huge squad base.
13th December - OPEN (17)
Fire
Tooting Tigers
Burro Electrico
Kent Open
ABH
Revolution
Bournemouth Ultimatum
UCL
LSE
Thrown
6FFU
BUF
Team Tash
Disc Doctors
Kent Touch This
Ltd Release
Brighton
Noticeable absentees due to no definitive response yet are Clapham 1 and 2,
Strange Blue and Golden Ants.
13th December - WOMEN'S (4)
Dirty Olive
Ltd Release
Crown Jewels
Pigeons of Doom.
4 teams!!!! Bring it on.
We have loads of teams who are interested in both events so we will be at
the mercy of pitch space and the weather. Keep an eye on the contact list
for updates. If you are a team contact and haven't signed up, then why
not????

London Winter League is growing and well done to all the teams for getting
involved. On the flip side we now need to be more organised so please help
us by signing up to the contacts list and letting us know early if you may
have to pull out. Your help is much appreciated.
See you there.

Subject: London Beginner Sessions.
Hello,
This Sunday will see the second stage of the London Beginner Sessions that
we started last month. We're trying to give people who are new to the sport
a chance to understand what it is all about and to pick up some basic
skills. Our last day had about 15 total beginners come out and a few people
who were looking to get back into the sport and it went really well. It's
not open only to "beginners", you might have been playing a while but fancy
getting out and having a session with some different people. Whatever the
reason, please come down and get involved. It'll be alongside the Flaming
Galah training session so they'll be a big game at the end with everyone
getting a chance to get involved. One total beginner got the most outrageous
layout D last time so I'm hoping to see more "experienced" players utterly
humiliated in front of a rabid, baying mob. That's the dream.
If this session appeals to you or you know people it might do, then please
forward it on. Ovathrow sent some of their corporate colleagues down to the
last one and I saw them playing winter league the other week, so it could be
just the nudge people need to give it a go. It doesn't matter if they have
never thrown a frisbee before or claim to not be able to catch, tell them to
come down and give it a go. The split last time was 50-50 men and women as
well so they need not be put off if they think it will be all guys.
I'm aware that this could have been better announced/organised but I'm
sinking a little bit under the weight of frisbee admin. In the new year,
I'll try and get these sessions better advertised outside of frisbee circles
and make a push at developing a beginner team that possibly enters summer
league after a few months of training. If you have any bright ideas about
how we can do this, or maybe you fancy helping out, then please drop me a
line. It's all work in progress at the moment so your suggestions and advice
are appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello,
Here are the results from Open/Women's Winter League 1. You have no idea how
much of his soul Si Hill had to sell for the sun to shine all day, so please
thank him next time you see him. Expect December's winter leagues to invoke
a hurricane as a result. I'm going to list the Women's results first as it
was our first ever Women's event at London Winter League.
Congratulations to the three teams who made it out and I hope that we can
build on this number for the next event. We already have a few signed up for
the next one so NOW is the time to rally your friends and play some
competitive Ultimate, without having to travel halfway round the country and
play for two days. If you have a few friends but feel you might need some
help forming a team then let me know and we could create a pick up team or
combine you with other like minded people.
Here are the results.
1 - Pigeons of Doom
2 - Crown Jewels
3 - Ltd Release
Congratulations in the Open division go to Clapham, who dominated the day
with both their teams at the top of the pile. Special mention also to
Golden Ants who have only just set up as a club yet managed to enter a team
into both mixed and open divisions this month. And do rather well. No mean
feat.

Schedule and directions are on the UKU website:
http://www.ukultimate.com/2009/11/15/london_winter_league_open_matchday_1
Remember to check TFL website if coming by public transport.
Seems like Sunday is going to be OK - but evidently there's a storm comin'. If
anything changes we will send notices to all the usual email-groups and try to
contact teams directly if we have a contact mobile number. Otherwise assume
everything is going ahead as per the schedule.
Small note about the women division: check the note on the schedule about
extending the length of your games - we've built in an extra game-slot so that
your three games can be longer if you like.
See you Sunday.
