Schedule for Charity Shield/LWL Finals THIS SATURDAY   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #727 of 1823 |
Hi Folks,

This Saturday sees the curtain-raiser to the season that is the Charity
Shield/Tour 0. This year the top 5 LWL teams, 2 NWL, 2 MWL, BPF and 2
foreign teams make up the slightly expanded 2nd Charity Shield to be
played on Clapham Common. For those who haven’t heard about the event we
made it up last year as an unofficial one day tournament to round off
the Winter Leagues in a relaxed fashion and give teams a chance to warm
up squads before the Tour starts in 4 weeks time. Last year we raised
£240 for the Red Cross at the time of the Iraq war. This year the
winning team will again get to choose the charity to which proceeds are
donated (although a small amount will be retained to pay for a permanent
trophy as this event seems likely to continue). Entry this year is
£20/team to be paid to Wayne Retter before 1st games.

Another 10 teams from the LWL will play in a Finals event seeded on
their league position. This takes place on Wandsworth Common. Entry is
the usual £10/team to be paid to Nicole Roberts before 1st games.

See http://www.londonultimate.com/winterleague/maps.html for details of
precise locations.

URGENT – despite my cupboard looking like the M25 on a bad day we’re
still short at least one set of cones for LWL finals and 2 sets for the
Charity Shield – could everyone coming who has a spare set please bring
them along. It’s that or disks….
NOTE – The schedules for both events are very tight and we must stick to
the given timings. Teams not ready to start at the stated times give
away 1 point for every 2 minutes after the start time they are not
ready, and the game is defaulted if they are not ready 15 minutes after
the start time.

If there are any problems or issues please get in touch IMMEDIATELY. In
particular could Bears and Flyght Club please confirm your attendance to
this email address. I’m 99% sure you’re coming but want to make 100%
sure as I’ve been in touch with the MWL co-ordinator rather than
individual teams.

Looking forward to seeing you all,
Roger

PS These events are self-catered so bring enough food, water and
protective clothing. Hardened Winter League campaigners won’t need
reminding that a bin bag is a good idea to put your kitbag in if it
rains. Details of local pubs, shops and toilets can be found on the
website.
