Kevin,

A good friend of mine, also a ham-radio operator Djani Drocic - DJ, would be able to help. I think he can operate one radio while doing the Rover job - similar to what Bill did last year.

We talked about it and the best it can be done is to setup one radio at 30 mile point, one at the rover, and one more this time - at the 50 mile point. The terrain is not favorable to cover all the terrain, and to cover the whole course would require more hams (or some of the LKHC folks would have to pass the test - no morse code required). Anyway, we should be ok, to have 3 points covered, again w/o start/finish.

Denin

For the http://megamonster. lowkeyhillclimbs .com/2010/ we're looking for 2 more volunteers. If interested, let me know. It's easy, fun, and for a good cause.

Carola's been nice enough to not send these notes to the Low-Key list because
of the conflict with the MegaMonster ( http://megamonster.lowkeyhillclimbs.com/
), but Low-Key loves the Beat the Clock series, so folks not wanting to ride 100
km or 100 miles on 13 Feb may well want to snatch up one of these final spots in
the BTC ride that day.

How about switching to Sunday in case of rain on Saturday (and a better

On second thought maybe it's a long way to ride in the rain and if the turn out is small then I could understand canceling it. Roxanne and i are now a definite maybe!

I like Bill's suggestion. I enjoy the Low Key events, and the many centuries I do each year, but, although I bike almost every day, I'm a recreational cyclist, not a bike racer, let alone a Pro, and when the weather is bad I ride on my indoor trainer. This is why Low Key are my only "competitive" events, and I suspect many Low Keyers are like me, and won't turn out next week if it's raining.

Let me add that I really like the Low Key events, and appreciate the work Dan (and Kevin) and the others put into organizing them, but the appeal to me is *precisely* their "turn up if you want to" nature. It fits perfectly with the attitude I and I suspect many of us have toward our cycling, that makes us turn out for the LKHC.

I would still like to ride unless the weather was horrendous or I was sick. Its a pretty non-technical course and (well last time at least) very lightly trafficked. Getting cold is the worst thing about getting wet. Just have to forgo aerodynamics for rain gear :-)

No fun for the volunteers though. I could understand if they didnt want stand around in the rain for hours.

Hi all,
I'll make a go/no go call after I get into town on Thursday. I usually make the
call the night before. My number one priority is rider safety.

Hopefully I'll be able to bring some of the sun we've had here in Westchester
County to the Golden State. I'm talking with Zeus now.

Stay tuned.

Rain is gone from the forecast:
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/vacationplanner/tenday/USCA0824?from=searc\
h_10day

BTW, has anyone seen any accounting on precipitation probabilities from forecast
models? For example, if I plot on the x-axis the probability claimed for a
given forecast period, and on the y-axis the % of time it actually rained, and
do a regression, I should get a straight line. I'm not so sure.....

Anyway, it looks good for Sunday.

Just a reminder that our block of rooms is guaranteed til 6:00PM tonight.  After that, our room rate will be honored only if room are still available.

For those who do come down the night before,  Megamonster registration will be open Friday evening from 4:00PM til 10:00PM at the motel, if you want to beat the rush on Saturday morning.

As previously announced, for Megamonster Mashers who want to avoid the early morning groggy eyed panic of driving far distances to a race, and prefer to make it to the start freshly nourished and ready to pedal profusely from Paicines to Pinnacles and all points in between,

we have a special "Low-Key" discount with full breakfast included at the Best Western in Hollister for February 12th:

http://www.bestwesternhollister.com/

Breakfast includes eggs, waffles, breads and bagels, fresh fruit, pastries, hot cereal, juices, coffee & tea.  Breakfast is from 6:00AM to 9:00PM so we can roll out of bed and stuff in an extra thousand calories or two.

When calling for registration, we need to ask for the "Megamonster Bicycle Race" discount.

Low-Keyers,
This Saturday, if you are riding the Low-Key Mega-Monster Enduro 2010, please
get a burrito or something else at the Paicines General Store (they are
delicious, btw). For many years, this little store has supported and welcomed
our event.

Kevin,

What is the situation with volunteers? DJ is asking how to prepare for Saturday morning. If he comes with a van, would that be OK for the rover duty? How many rovers are out there?

Howdy all. We're only hours away from the start of the 2010 Low-Key
Mega-Monster Enduro! Are you ready? I am.

Some cool stuff:
1) I've heard we'll have some pretty interesting teams showing up. Will we have
a 16-person team? We'll have to see.

2) After we cover our expenses, everything else will go to Haitian relief.

3) And, any food we have left over will go to the San Jose InnVision house in
downtown San Jose. So, eat all you want, gobble it down, but don't worry about
leftovers. We did this a few years ago and InnVision treated their folks to
some amazing banana bread! (Yes, they gave me a slice, too - yum!)

So, see you all there. Weather is supposed to be perfect. And we've got a
great group of volunteers so remember to high-five them as you see them.

To a great cycling adventure!

Go Long,

As I always do the night before any LK event I coordinate, I issue a Go/No Go
note regarding the event.

2010 Low-Key Mega-Monster Enduro = Go.

With temps starting out at 45 F and reaching 65 F throughout the day, 4 to 5 mph
winds from the East - Northeast, and plenty of sunshine, the event should be a
blast. We could smash records as well. But I'll leave that up to you.

See you at the sunrise.
