We never had to stop the meds with Curtis but we were warned that they can get worse before they get better. Apparently when the protozoa are dying they can make the horse appear much worse....as with the feeding I would try anything that you can to get him to try to eat...carrotts, apples, liquid molasses...anything sweet to tempt him.
My thoughts and prayers are with you

*hugs* sweetie.
A friend of mine's horse was on the other meds and got much worse
before he got better. Keep at it. Getting over a nasty case of EPM
takes a long time.

Christy,
I'm thinking of you both!

Oh, and I loved the interview on NPR. *I* didn't make the cut, but I heard Tally's name being announced with yours in the background. <vbg>
Will you be ordering any pics from Gladstone? There are 2 I'm getting. And I'm tempted to get the one from the line up where she's peering down the line, looking for her boyfriend Henry. Well...boyfriend in HER mind, anyway. LOL

Seeing what she did for Tally at USET, you won't be disappointed with Diane doing your braids!
Not to mention she is just a really nice person, with the brightest, smiling eyes you'll see outside Ireland. Just go to Harrisburg and meet her!

Hi Deb,
I sent you an email regarding contacting the event organizers.
In any case, this event will be just like the jousts at the Tower of
London, this past September and the regular jousts at the Royal Armouries.
Cheers,

Those of you who were at the Liberty Network’s Sidesaddle@USET weekend just a few weeks ago might remember Diane Toomey, a reporter who was doing a story for National Public Radio.Well, her story airs on Saturday!
AND you can hear the piece anytime on the web, beginning Saturday morning, at www.onlyagame.org.How cool is that?
Diane wrote that Roger Philpot, Janet Brown, junior riders Emma Hartley and Sara Bean, and I will be in the story.I know she interviewed others, so who knows who else you may hear!
Kit - you deserve a special kudos for attracting this sort of national attention for the sport!

They were rather stand-offish. I walked through the stables on the way
to my car because I was performing there one weekend ask stopped to

By sport jousting, do you mean full contact jousting? There's a full contact joust tournament held every year at MdRF sometime in October. It lasts for three days and there are some very heavy hitters in it, not to mention some spectacular injuries. Some of my best friends ride in it every year, and one flies around the world to compete in various european and english tournaments. He also runs a contact joust training program on the eastern shore. If you are interested in watching contact jousting, just spend any weekend afternoon at MdRF. Most ren faire jousts are scripted a la Medieval Times, but Roy Cox's troupe definately is not and they don't pull punches.
It's a blast to do, but, alas, my joust days are behind me, since that's how I fractured my right elbow. Can't even hold a gaming lance these days. Heavy sigh.
> Jenn, do you think you may be attending? I'd love to get some pics and an article for Aside World. This is of particular interest to me, since jousting is the Maryland State Sport! Thanks,
But the MD version is far tamer than the Ren Fair version. ;) Ironically, I've never seen sport jousting at all in MD, only on TV shows. Is it still
around?
That'd be just super, Jenn! Thank you very much in advance for your help with this.

Yup! Tuckahoe is hosting it's final joust next weekend (I think, will have to check their website for the details) There are jousts held almost every weekend, in different locations around the state.
Of course, I guess it would be a little tamer, considering we ride to spear little rings, not each other. <g> I gotta admit, I don't think I'd want to try the Ren Fair version. I don't bounce when I fall off my horse, and I bruise more easily than I used to when I was younger. But, it would be fun to watch.

Another disappointing day. Called the vet this am and we have to skip
another day of treatment and get him on some bute. He's trying to
founder again. Not so badly as last time so I hope it will be a minor
setback. He is losing his appitite and is not getting as much grain as
I would like. Still, he is grazing (yesterday was 8 hrs on pasture).
I am worried that he's not getting the corn oil he's supposed to.
Wonder if I could spray oil on the whole pasture? At least the farmers
around here have cut the corn down. His pasture buddy has been seen
reaching through the fence so I've been worried he was getting into the
corn - NOT what he needs. At least that's one less thing to worry
about. Just another day in paradise, Christy
Sorry about the massive cross-post, but this news is too good to not pass on to everyone we can. Please feel free to send it around to your local horse society or any other groups.

I used to think the possums were just a nuisance, but they better look out now - I'm out for blood! Thanks for the encouragement, I need all I can get. Today has been a good day. Takin' it one day at a time, Christy

It's a tough long term recovery from EPM, but I've seen a few lovely horses recover fully and return to full use. One mare, was a gorgeous rose gray TB filly when she contracted it and we were fearful that she'd never live to fullfill her promise. (Great bloodlines, even if she never put foot on a track she'd be a great broodmare). She not only recovered, but raced several times, won a few, lost a few and is now happily working the mommy thing.
I know we're all pulling for you and Fox. I'm glad your neighbor is helping with the varmint cleanup duty. It would be a shame to have any more horses exposed.
Had a tough weekend. Fox foundered on Sat. so we went back to the
vet. We stopped the Navigator and got him on bute. He was good Sat
night and Sun morn. I gave him more bute Sun morn and he's been good
since. Called the vet this morn and he gave the ok to start back with
the Navigator. Tommorrow will be tense. The first 5 days you only
give them 1/2 the dose. That ended today so tomorrow it will be the
FULL dose. I'll be holding my breath that he will not founder again.
I caught 2 young possums last week and last night my neighbor got
another one. He is shooting them for me but it really seems like they
are over runnig us this year. I wonder if the dry summer has made food
scarce? I have my trap set but I hope there are no more! Thanks to
everyone for all the encouraging thoughts. It REALLY helps when
someone says their horse had it and recovered just fine! Gives me
hope! Later, Christy
