Welcome to the Capitals

When the Caps take the ice tonight there will be three new faces in the lineup. On Saturday the Capitals claimed 32-year-old left wing Marco Sturm off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings. On Monday the Caps brokered a deal for defenseman Dennis Wideman from Florida in exchange for minor league forward Jake Hauswirth and Washington's third-round choice in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. The Capitals didn't end there. Minutes before the deadline the Caps completed their day's work with the acquisition of veteran center Jason Arnott from New Jersey in exchange for center David Steckel and the Caps' second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Sturm is a seven-time 20-goal scorer who has nine points (four goals, five assists) in 17 games with Los Angeles this season. The Dingolfing, Germany, native has 475 points (238 goals, 237 assists) in 872 regular-season games and 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 52 Stanley Cup playoff games.
Wideman has recorded 30 or more points in his last three seasons and had his best season with Boston in 2008-09 when he totaled 13 goals and 50 points and was a +32. This season Wideman has nine goals and 33 points in 61 games. Both Sturm and Wideman were teammates in Boston last season.
The 36-year-old Arnott scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal in double overtime for New Jersey in 2000. He has posted a dozen 20-goal seasons in the NHL and has 396 goals, 501 assists and 897 points in 1161 regular-season games and 30 goals, 36 assists and 66 points in 106 Stanley Cup playoff games with Edmonton, New Jersey, Dallas and Nashville. This season Arnott has 13 goals and 24 points in 62 games with New Jersey.

Sturm will sport sweater No. 18, Wideman No. 6 and Arnott No. 44 for the Capitals. For more coverage on the NHL deadline day CLICK HERE.

Senators on February 23. He played three games with Binghamton, scoring a goal
in the Senators’ 7-4 win over the Syracuse Crunch on February 26. Gordon
has three points (1g-2a) and two penalty minutes in nine total AHL games with
the Senators and Rochester Americans this season. Gordon leads the Royals in
goals (22) and points (48) in forty-six games with the team. In 114 career games
with Reading, Gordon has registered 135 points, which is five points shy of
becoming the team’s all-time leading scorer.

This is the second recall of the season for Donald, a first year pro from St.
Albert, Alberta. He played three games with the P-Bruins in early November
without registering any points or penalty minutes. Donald registered twelve
points (3g-9a) and a team leading 101 penalty minutes in forty-five games with
the Royals. At the time of his recall, he was also playing to a team leading
plus-19 (+19) for Reading, which is tied for third in the ECHL in that category.
Goulet, a second year pro from Kapuskasing, Ontario, played one game for the
P-Bruins without registering any points or penalty minutes prior to being
assigned to Reading on October 13. He registered nineteen points (4g-15a) and
twenty-nine penalty minutes in forty-three games with the Royals.

senior season at SUNY-Morrisville, where he compiled a record of 9-13-1 with a
3.63 goals against average and an..898 save percentage with one shutout. Relkoff
is the all-time leader in career saves made for SUNY-Morrisville. Wild, a third
year pro from North Providence, Rhode Island, was placed on the 3-Day Injured
Reserve on February 26. He has eleven points (1g-10a) and four penalty minutes
in twenty-five games with the Royals. Nikiforov, a third year pro from Hauppage,
New York, had been activated off the 7-Day Injured Reserve on Sunday and picked
up an assist in the Royals 6-4 loss to the Gwinnett Gladiators that day.
Nikiforov has two assists and eight penalty minutes in fourteen games with
Reading this year.

The Royals return to action on Wednesday (March 2 @ 7:35 pm) when the team will

Oilers vs Predators

OILERS DOWN PREDS 2-1 IN SHOOTOUT

After being out-shot 30-13 through 40 minutes, the Oilers picked up their game in the third, dominating the Predators in the remainder of regulation and through five minutes of overtime. Early shootout success for both sides put the game-winner in Linus Omark's hands, and the skilled rookie didn't disappoint, fooling Pekka Rinne with a sneaky shot to secure a 2-1 shootout win for Edmonton Tuesday night.

Royals Fall Again on Late Game Goal by Cincy, 3-2
Reading Drops Third in Row for First Time since October

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL (1 st Atlantic Division,
35-16-2-3=75), affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the
National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League,
were defeated by the Cincinnati Cyclones (3 rd Division, 25-22-6-3=59), 3-2, at
U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Royals battled back from a two-goal
first period deficit to tie, but for the second time in the last three games
Reading gave up a late third tie-breaking game winner against. The Royals have
lost three consecutive games in regulation for the first time since games three
through five in October.

Reading’s Michael Hutchinson (loss, 9-5-1-3, 41/44) made a number of
spectacular stops to keep the Royals alive in some tough moments; but proved the
hard-luck loser. Cincinnati’s Brian Foster (win, 3-1-0-0, 26/28) was
equally good in his first outing against the Royals. Reading got on the board
early in the second on the team’s first power play chance of the night
(1-3). The Royals’ penalty killers were perfect (0-3) for the ninth time
in the last twelve games.

For the first time in the last eight games, the Royals’ opposition scored
first, when the Cyclones’ broke into the offensive zone with a two-on-one
rush. Samson Mahbod and Barrett Eghoetz made several hot-potato passes as they
approached the Royals’ net with Eghoetz finishing on the back-door for his
thirteenth of the year 5:22 into the first. The Cyclones took a 2-0 lead with
1:11 left in the period on another odd-man rush—this time with three
Cyclones—Mathieu Aubin, Kevin Roeder, and Dustin Sproat—entering the
offensive zone for a multiple-pass tic-tac-toe sequence with Sproat finishing
this one on the back-door.

Reading got on the board 6:55 into the second with a power play goal by Chris
Blight. Matt Caruana gained possession on the right half-wall and landed a
perfect saucer to Andrew Sarauer who was planted on the right side of the goal
with his back to the net. Sarauer slipped a cross-crease, no-look, behind the
back pass to Blight, who was set up on the back-door to jam in his fourteenth of
the year. Reading tied the game at two 16:59 into the second, when Ryan Cruthers
found himself wide-open all alone just inside the offensive blue line for a
clean break on the Cincinnati net. Cruthers hit the pipe with a fore-hand,
back-hand effort, but didn’t give up on the puck. Instead, he intercepted
the Cyclones’ break-out effort at the left point and fed to the low slot
where a waiting Olivier Labelle ripped a quick snap-shot over the right
Foster’s right shoulder for his thirteenth of the year.

The two teams traded chances in an energetic third period, and the two
goaltenders traded quality stops at both ends of the ice. With 3:56 left in
regulation, the Cyclones got what proved to be the game winner when Phil
Youngclaus fired a shot from the right point that was deflected once by Dan Eves
and then a second time directly at the right side of the Royals’ net by
Mathieu Aubin, who deftly angled the puck over the blocker of Hutchinson for his
eighteenth of the year. Reading pressed hard down the stretch and got several
Grade-A chances, but the team misfired on a couple and Foster made several solid
stops to preserve the win.

The Royals return to action tomorrow (Thursday, March 3 @ 7:00 pm) when the team
will face the Toledo Walleye at Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. The Royals
game day broadcast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by The
Works at Wyomissing on the Royals Broadcast Network (WRAW 1340 am in Reading,
