Those of you who have satellite or cable television and can stay
late, there is a huge basketball event being covered quite well by
Nile Al Riyada all day. Today we watched 3 basketball game no less
and were delighted by the general level of play. Not only do you see
national sides of teams we will never have an opportunity to watch
except on such brief occasions, particularly non-Arab states luike
Angola, Mozambique, Central Africa and South Africa, but also What
interests us Lebanese is seeing players we already know. One such
guy is the Nigerian Ogudwire, the Lebanese public loves for his
clever play while at Antranik, skillful tactics and last-minute
turning of games upside down. And whoever can forget his theatrics
prior to shooting his free throws, and he sure got lot of those free
throws I mean... and the steals and the forced turnovers and
constant taunting of the biggest of opponents....
Well you should have seen Ogudwire tonight. The classical Ogudwire
exactly as we know him. The years haven't changed his reflexes one
bit, and even have made them sharper and more delightful. He was
instrumental in saving the day for Nigeria against Central African
Republic. With the game on balance 64-62, with precious 20 seconds
remaining. Ogudwire skillfully handled the ball (a very strong point
as always), drew a first foul, got the 2 free throws, made the
result 65-62, although missed the second but got the rebound and
converted it 67-62. And to kill the game as is for the
Centrafricains, he also got the steal plus another 2 free throws 69-
62 and all this in mere 20 seconds!!!
Don't you miss such a great player. Don't know about you, but well I
do....
Do make a habit to watch teh gamwes until the 16th. You won't regret
it.
