Lebanon has a very rich basketball scene worthy
of further exploration. The religious Tele Lumiere
TV station and Sports Vision are doing a great job
in Second Division Men and First Division Women. But
here are other Lebanese basketball scenes that could
be covered:

-High School basketball (great
talents here in big established schools. The school
basketball programs could be highlighted this way so that
our kids go to the right schools with good basketball
activity and facilities. Other schools that are not
presently that active may follow suit by seeing the
"competition". There's so much more that can be done here.)
-University basketball (including some notable stars from
First Division Men participating - the educated ones
for a change!!! We don't want our men to be good in
basketball and good for nothing brats in everything else!!
Give me an educated civilized well-spoken basketball
player any time with a proper masters degree and a
decent profession!! Lead by example!!!)
-Junior
Basketball (all age groups could included plus the all
important 15 up to 18 age groups, boys and
girls.)
-Company basketball (now allowed by FLB to be assisted by
2 pro players per team). So many good quality and
high standard teams here too and great free publicity
occasion for our companies, banks and media
outlets.
-Wheelchair basketball (some good teams are found here too! I
commend here for example businessman Mr. Nassour Nassour
for his untiring effort in this regard, or the very
impressive Goodwill club in Jbeil etc.)
-Basketball media
coverage (newspapers, magazines) and most importantly
internet basketball scene. We should encourage and cover
all good Lebanese internet sites to come and promote
their basketball stuff and encourage others to do the
same. This will be a great reflection on our healthy
basketball scene and our talents the world over. There is no
such coverage for now.

True, Lebanese Second
Division basketball is into something real big now.
Incidentally with an 8-team first division, our already
competetive second division will be even a hotter closely
fought league with possible sponsorships and huge crowd
turnouts. Second division is an emerging pearl of a
conference worthy of a lot of encouragement by FLB and all
of us.

But let us not ignore the others. I
suggest that once a week, an important game be taped and
broadcast on Tele Lumiere sometime other than Sunday,
covering these other conferences, whereas Sunday should be
reserved to Second Division men.

Also may I suggest
a possible one-hour basketball program to be
initiated by Tele Lumiere in prime time covering all such
games. It could be the most attended program they may
possibly have outside religious public. The program could
be comprised of results of games, fixtures of games
so that we know where to go, interviews with
aspiring players, coaches and team managers, basketball
training tips, educational ideas for schools, internet
etc)

They could also feature the younger stars of Lebanon
for a change, rather than a constant pumping of
established players who are up to their nostrils (well some
of them) with daily interviews pushed down their and
our throats. The inspiring input of our youngsters
and their unlimited enthusiasm may encourage further
propagation of the game amongst Lebanon's youth. I am sure
they have fresher more healthy things to say instead
of the traditional lot.

Just a plea on my
side to Tele Lumiere which is on to a very good thing
I tell you. May be our prayers and some divine
intervention might help too!!! Perhaps some "heavenly"
contributions from sponsors. Why not...Just kidding though....
On the serious side, you are doing great work
friends. I am sure also, that as the rest of us, God
Almighty must be equally pleased with your work too...
