The Lawrence Mountain Bike Club mission is to promote cycling in and around Lawrence, Kansas by organizing mountain bike rides for riders of all skill levels, cycling events, and through support of trail advocacy efforts.
Lawrence Mountain Bike Club was founded in 1996 with the idea of being a self-supporting democratic organization that promotes mountain biking opportunities for all and has fun doing it. LMBC is one of only a handful of organized mountain bike clubs in the state of Kansas.
Lawrence Mountain Bike Club is one of 400 clubs affiliated with IMBA, the International Mountain Bike Association. IMBA's mission is to promote mountain bicycling opportunities that are environmentally sound and socially responsible. Since 1988, IMBA has been bringing out the best in mountain biking by encouraging low-impact riding, volunteer trailwork participation, cooperation among different trail user groups, and innovative trail management solutions.
Lawrence Mountain Bike Club also sponsors the River Trail Patrol, a chapter of the National Mountain Bike Patrol. The River Trail Patrol maintains the Lawrence River Trail through a partnership with the City of Lawrence. Trail Patrol members and LMBC volunteers repair, maintain, and improve the 9-mile River Trail, which is the most heavily used mountain bike trail in Kansas.
LMBC is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
