While this is good news, it’s amazing how long it took this team to respond to the changing demographics of their fan base. There may now be close to 2 million Hispanics in the Chicago metro area, and they just put up a Spanish Web site two years ago? Que verguenza!

Cubs, WRTO-1200 AM to Provide Spanish Radio Broadcasts in 2009

The Chicago Cubs and WRTO - 1200 AM today announced plans to broadcast in
Spanish 20 Cubs games during the 2009 regular season. The Cubs and WRTO - 1200
AM will make their Spanish radio debut on April 21 when the Cubs host the
Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field.
"This exciting new partnership extends our commitment to our Latino fan
base," said Cubs Chairman Crane Kenney. "We know the passion for
baseball in the Spanish speaking communities in Chicago is tremendous and our
partnership with La Tremenda, coupled with loscubs.com and our relationships
with Hoy and Telemundo, allows us to provide a rich experience with Cubs
baseball to our growing Spanish-speaking fan base."
The partnership with WRTO adds to the Cubs Spanish-language offerings for the
culturally rich communities of its Latino fan base. Loscubs.com, the official
Spanish-language Web site of the Chicago Cubs, launched in 2007 and is
currently the most-visited Spanish-language site among all 30 MLB teams. Along
with Spanish-media partners, HOY and Telemundo, the Cubs will again present
"Conoce a tus Cubs" (Get to know your Cubs) now in its third year.
"Conoce a tus Cubs" presents player interviews with inside accounts
of life on and off the baseball field.
This Spring, the Cubs will celebrate the grand opening of Little Cubs Field in Humboldt Park. Little Cubs Field is a World Class baseball stadium built in and for a
community whose passion for baseball is second to none. The Cubs teamed with
the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago and Alderman Billy Ocasio to raise $2 million
to make this dream a reality. The field's design highlights some of the
well-known elements of Wrigley Field: The scoreboard will be reminiscent of the
famed Wrigley Field marquee and the stadium will feature covered grandstand
seats with a roofline like the Major League park. The field is built in
cooperation with the Chicago Park District and the Parkways Foundation.
