I think it would be interesting to trace where the name Robinson comes from among Latinos.. If not Jackie, then who? It's odd to me that there are zero US native players with that first name..

Indeed Robinson Cano was named after Jackie Robinson, since his father, Jose, a former major leaguer, was always a big Jackie Robinson's fan. Actually, Cano wears numer 24 (42 backwards)
Cano is the only one latino linked with name to Jackie Robinson. Robinson is a very very common first name is Latin America, and it is not uncommon to find many players under the name Robinson. they have nothing to do with Jackie, it's just a regular common name.

With regard to the event that first prompted Bob (Davids) to consider the
question (Larry Doby Johnson's debut), I've often wondered about the
player whose name is most closely associated with Doby. A question
that I would have for fellow SABR members would be whether or not
there is a connection between these Latino major leaguers whose first
or middle name is Robinson to one Jack Roosevelt Robinson.
Rich Klein found an item that suggests that Robbie Cano does indeed have an affinity for Jackie Robinson.

Of course, Brooks Robinson's #5 wasn't available, either.. :)
