Pirates plan Dominican academy
Pittsburgh Business Times
The Pittsburgh Pirates, who in October purchased a
46-acre property in the Dominican Republic for a
baseball academy, said Thursday they will break ground
on the site on Jan. 22.
The academy, in El Toro in the Dominican Republic,
will serve as the headquarters for the Pirates Latin
American Baseball Operations, as well as a housing and
training complex for the players on the ballclub's
Dominican Summer League roster and other players
invited to train at the academy.
