New York, NY--December 7, 2006--Continuing its
extensive coverage of baseball all-year-round, ESPN
Deportes, the home of winter baseball, will offer an
exclusive, Spanish-language production of the
Caribbean's most intense baseball rivalry as the
Puerto Rican All-Stars travel to the Dominican
Republic to take on the Dominican All-Stars in the
Interleague All Star Game, Sunday, Dec. 10. In
addition, the network will also offer exclusive
coverage of the Interleague Home Run Derby, making it
the first time the contest is aired in the U.S.
Live coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. E.T., with a special
30-minute edition of Beisbol Esta Noche (Baseball
Tonight), followed by live telecast of the Home Run
Derby at 3 p.m., ET., and the Interleague All-Star
game at 4 p.m. ET.
Joining the Dominican roster will be New York Yankees
Robinson Cano. St. Louis Cardinals Yadier Molina is
set to represent Puerto Rico.
Pitching legend Juan Marichal, the only Dominican-
born player in the Hall of Fame will provide
commentary for a third consecutive year. Joining
Marichal for play-by-play will be veteran Major League
Baseball announcer Ernesto Jerez and former Major
Leaguer Candy Maldonado (analysis). ESPN Deportes'
Kevin Cabral and Carlos Jose Lugo will provide reports
from the field.
Going into its fourth year, the Interleague All Stars
game features players from the winter leagues in
Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic in a one-game
showdown. Among the major leaguers who have
participated in the past include Puerto Ricans Alex
Cintron, Jose Valentin, Alex Rios and Carlos Baerga.
The Dominican team has been represented by major
leaguers David Ortiz, Robinson Cano, Jose Reyes, Neifi
Perez and Rafael Furcal, among others.
ESPN Deportes provides fans with the most extensive
Spanish-language baseball coverage. The network
televises winter baseball from the Dominican Republic,
Mexico and Venezuela, as well as more than 70
regular-season Major League Baseball games and the
Home Run Derby.
ESPN Deportes has secured distribution agreements with
eight of the ten largest cable operators in the U.S.,
including Adelphia, Cablevision, Charter, Cox,
Comcast, Insight, Cable One, and with the National
Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC). ESPN Deportes is
also available in Puerto Rico on Liberty Cablevision.
