I thought the image was trademarked, so nothing stops you from using the
phrase in casual conversation without acknowledgement. Hallahan High School
uses Mickey as their mascot, but I guess they got a dispensation from the

I thought the image was trademarked, so nothing stops you from using the
phrase in casual conversation without acknowledgement. Hallahan High School
uses Mickey as their mascot, but I guess they got a dispensation from the
   Pope of Disneyland.

Yes, Dewey Jr. was my father, who founded the firm with my uncles. My
Great-Uncle Scrooge put them through school and helped them with start-up
money and an enviable client base. My cousins Hugh and Louise are also

NOTE EARLIER START TIMES from now on....

WED:
We're riding tonight at Belmont Plateau - meeting at 5:30pm. This is a
really fun area that's quite different from the Wissahickon. It's not
nearly as rocky or hilly, but is technical in other ways - it has lots of
single track and is REALLY twisty and windy. Directions below.

THURS:
We plan to have the usual intermediate and advanced rides tomorrow night
(10/3) at the Wissahickon. The weather should be awesome! We will be
meeting at 5:45PM and leaving by 6:00PM.

SAT AND SUN:
Jim Thorpe
Mountain Bike/Hike/Camp Weekend
October 4, 5, 6

The forecasted weather is looking better!!!
If you would like to join us call the "Mauch Chunk Lake Park" and reserve
your camping site! It's $5.00/nite per person, you need at least four
campers to get a site. Max campers per site is 6.

Directions
1.5 hours from Philly. North on N.E. extension, PA turnpike to Exit #34,

Regular Weekly details:
Join us for Thursday night mountain biking in the Wissahickon!!

We meet in the parking lot next to Valley Green restaurant (on Forbidden
Drive) at 5:45pm.

Note that we bike the trails (not Forbidden Drive).

Helmets are mandatory. Rain cancels.

You should get a Wissahickon Park permit - cost is as little as $10 (the fee
is really an annual contribution to the Fairmount Park). You can get an
application in the park OR CALL 215-685-0014 and they can fax or mail you an
application or go on the Philly Bike Club's web site:
http://www.phillybikeclub.org/permit.html.

Contact Lisa Coyle at 215-763-8488 Lisa_Coyle@... for more details

Directions to Valley Green:

From PA Turnpike:
Take Turnpike exit #26 and take 309 South (Bethlehem Pike) and follow
through Springfield Township to the north end of Chestnut Hill. Make a left
onto Stenton Avenue, and follow that to Willow Grove Avenue -- make a right
onto Willow Grove. Then take a left on Germantown Avenue. Turn right onto
Springfield Avenue (should be the very next block). Follow Springfield
Avenue to the bottom of a hill and bear right at the fork onto Valley Green
Rd. (If you get to Cherokee, you’ve missed Valley Green Rd.) You’ll see a
sign for the Valley Green entrance to the park, and there will be a parking
lot on the right. Park there and keep walking in the same direction to the
bottom of the hill. The big white house is the Valley Green Inn.

From Ridge Pike:
In the Roxborough area, if you’re coming from the northwest, take a left on
Shawmont. (Take a right on Shawmont, if you’re coming from Center City.)
Take a left on Wise’s Mill Road. This road empties onto Forbidden Drive --
lots of walkers, runners, and bikers, so be careful and observe the
near-zero speed limit. There’s a parking lot down the road on the left.
You’ll keep walking in the same direction a short way to the Valley Green
Inn -- the big white house.

From the Schuylkill:
Take 76 to Lincoln Drive. Take Lincoln Drive to McCallum St. (1.2 miles past
first light). Make a left on McCallum, and follow it all the way to the end.
Turn left on Wolcott, and follow Wolcott (which winds around) to the end.
Turn left onto Valley Green Rd. You’ll see a sign for the Valley Green
entrance to the park, and there will be a parking lot on the right. Park
there and keep walking in the same direction to the bottom of the hill. The
big white house is the Valley Green Inn.

Belmont Plateau
From the northwest:
Take I-76 E (Schuylkill Expy) to Montgomery Ave exit.
Turn right off exit ramp.
Take 2rd right onto Belmont Mansion Dr. (no street sign - softball field on
right)
Park in lot on right, near fields.

From the south:
Take I-76 W (Schuylkill Expy) to Montgomery Ave exit.
Turn left off exit ramp, and drive under I-76 overpass.
Take 2rd right onto Belmont Mansion Dr. (no street sign - softball field on
right)
Park in lot on right, near fields.

I was asked to pass this information along:

It's bow hunting season at Jim Thorpe. Hunters will likely be out on
Saturday, so we should make sure we are visible to them.

Please wear brightly colored clothing such as orange, yellow, red so you
don't become their dinner!!

The Ben Franklin Bridge will be closed on Sunday AM from about 8:20 until
9:30 according to a sign posted at the bridge. NJ skaters may wish to use
an alternate route for the Sun AM skate.

Yes Carol -- sorry the e-mail didn't get to you. I'll forward it along.

This might also be a good time to remind people of some of the member
benefits:
   - sponsored bus trips
   - GreatEsSkate trip organized and run by the Landskaters (thanks Bev!)
   - member appreciation skates
   - on-line year-round newsletters
   - winter party
   - etc., etc., etc.

And just around the corner, the Annual Meeting following our Sunday morning
Halloween skate (October 27).

If you need to renew your membership, now is the time to do it.

REMINDER: We will once again be holding a Landskaters 2003 T-Shirt Design
Contest at the annual meeting. For those of you who have any artistic
talent, start thinking about your designs. For the rest of us who have no
artistic talent...well, I was amazed at how many talented people we have in
the club. More details to come.

Kim

And if that's still not enough reason ...

At the annual meeting you can get a 6 month membership for only $10, and at
the meeting you'll get a $5 food coupon, so it really only costs you $5 to
join the best skate club in the country for the past 10 years!!!! (Yes,
this all started in October '92)

As one member recently said, "these trips are awesome - the club takes care
of all the details and we just show up and skate"

Keith

SUNDAY "RECREATIONAL ROLL"

October 6, 4:00pm (note the time change to accomodate the earlier sunset) at
the bottom of the Art Museum steps

This is a short, slow recreational roll thru the city for skaters not yet
ready for the Sunday morning City Skate. Please invite first-time city
skaters so we can prepare them for the morning skate! Like all city skates,
helmets are required, protective gear is strongly recommended, and skaters
must be able to stop on their own.

PLEASE INVITE NEW SKATERS TO THE SUNDAY "RECREATIONAL ROLL"!

Hello Everyone!

Are you ready to skate 37 miles? It is time for our 5th Annual Trail Skate!
The date is Saturday, December 7, 2002. We will meet at Anclote Boatworks
in Tarpon Springs at 8:00 a.m., with a charter bus to transport us to the
beginning of the skate in St. Pete. The bus will also make a stop at Taylor
Park for those who want to skate 18 miles.

Pre-Skate Pasta Dinner

Join us Friday, December 6th at 6:00pm in the “Great Room” at Bill Jackson’s
Shop for Adventure for our Pre-Skate Pasta Dinner. Our dinner will be
prepared by Darry Jackson and Melissa Damel (we know they can skate… let’s
see if they can cook). We will be distributing our famous “goodie bags” and
very cool TrailSkate2002 teeshirts, and you will also have the opportunity
to purchase any last minute items you need (i.e. blister kit, sunscreen,
skate tools, water carriers, wheels, etc). Dinner is free for registered
skates, $7.00 for family and friends.

How to Register

You can now register on-line for our 5th Annual Trail Skate at
www.TrailSkate2002.com.

A printable registration form that you can fax (727.576.7579) or mail
(Attention: Melissa) to Bill Jackson’s is also available on the web site.
There are also links to interactive maps to Tarpon Springs, the Pasta Dinner
at Bill Jackson’s, and the Tampa Bay Area Skaters Discussion Board that you
can post questions and answers for everyone to see!

Please call us at 727.576.4169 if you have any questions, or e-mail
Adventure@....

We look forward to skating with you!

OK they want to do it one more time
If you missed A2A and still want the distance training, or calorie burning

Saturday Oct 19th 7:00 (yes 7:00am)
CH2AC, still bring sunblock and a water bottle, I'd bring a wetsuit instead
of a swim suit and a few $$$ to Gamble with.

We plan to have the usual ride tomorrow night (10/10) at the Wissahickon.
We will be meeting at 5:45PM and leaving by 6:00PM. Bring lights if you
have them!

SAT:
This Sat from 9am to 2pm is the annual end of season bike flea market at the
Lehigh Valley Velodrome. Here's a link to the site and directions:
http://www.lvvelo.org/fleamkt.htm

We might ride in Lehigh Valley after the sale, but I don't know where and
when yet. Let me know if you're interested and I'll let you know the
details as I know them.

From Philadelphia
Take I-95 to I-476 North to Exit 58 (Lehigh Valley). Take Route 22 West and
follow to Exit 49A (Route 100 South). Follow Exit 49A (Route 100 South) to
the 4th traffic light (Route 222). Make a right turn onto Route 222 South,
follow for .2 miles and make a right turn onto Mosser Road. .1 miles to
Lehigh Valley Velodrome.

-----------------------------------------------------

Hello all!
Who is planning on going to the Hash Bash, and is anyone carpooling?
I've been skating for years, but have never been to this event. I'd like to
check it out, but don't want to get lost alone in NYC.

~Aaron
