Subject: Philly Speedskating Clinics Redeux Update
To Possible Skate Clinic Participants:
If the Following is Ok, Please Respond back to me again so I can get a final
count,
but this should be a definite we have over 20 total skaters!
The following has been devised to attempt to guarantee a Clinic.
This From Barry Publow about the June 12-13 Clinic in Philadelphia:
Everyone would participate in both days. You see, even for advanced skaters
we tend to build skills from scratch and attempt to reconstitute their skill to
produce technical improvement by Sunday afternoon.
So... Saturday's skill set can (and should be) performed by both groups..
level 1 AND level 2. Even top level skaters need to go back to basics
sometimes. Even some of our fastest clinic participants in the past have needed
to digress to basic body alignment in order to correct for errors and rebuild.
Sunday we would likely split the group in 2 for a good part of the day... I
usually work with the more advanced/double-push group and Aaron would stick with
the novice/classic technique group. Althgouh we prefer to assess and evaluate
the group on Saturday before making such a decision.
I think the safest thing is abandon the whole concept of level 1 OR level 2,
and call if a level 1-2 clinic. This seems to be the new standard for how we
are operating. i.e. Everyone follows the same content for day 1, then for day
2 we can split into 2 groups. This should also help us maximize partcipation
and interest.
Cheers,
B.
