We are in full swing at the Sportsplex these days. Saturday saw over
2500 visitors through the course of the day, and while several folks
complained of overcrowding, the vast majority were thrilled to see the
kids programming in Greensboro. Saturday, we hosted 6 courts of Junior
Olympics Volleyball, 4 courts of USSSA Basketball and 3 fields of high
school soccer leagues. It was amazing to see all these events being
hosted under one roof and with relatively few concerns.
As you visit the Sportsplex in the next few months, if you arrive to
find no parking, we now have approval from the city to use one lane of
16th Street as parking. You may park from our driveway all the way
down to the go cart track. This should ease some of our parking
concerns.
This week's events include:
- Monday night - Adult coed 4's leagues will go on as scheduled. With
another bout of inclimate weather predicted, we are watching the
weather, but it appears the freezing rain will hold off til late night.
Please show up at 7 p.m. and be prepared to play by 7:10 p.m.. All
teams will be play at the same time. Schedules will be handed out
tonight for the remainder of the season.
- Tuesday Night - Youth league continues with practice from 5:30-6:30
p.m. and play from 6:30-7:30 p.m. We have 20 youth signed up and are
still accepting new players if anyone is still interested.
- Wednesday night - Open play will be held from 6-9 p.m. We will
offer a court of A play and a court of B play. Try to place yourself
according to your skill level. The game is more fun for everyone if
the skilled players separate themselves from the less experienced ones.
Bring a friend along and help us grow the B division.
- Saturday - Our facility will be closed to the public as we have a
facility rental all day. The YWCA has rented the facility and will be
hosting a women's and girl's in sports day. They will have instructors
in fencing, soccer, hockey, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading,
dance, lacrosse, and other sports to help introduce the various sports
to the area's youth. To get involved in this event, contact the YWCA
directly.
- Sunday - Another day of competitive adult volleyball is in store. We
are hosting a men's and women's tournament on Sunday featuring the best
volleyball the state has to offer. 10 courts of action will be taking
place all day.
