Re: [kom_] on the handlebars

Heart rate monitors and racing

First the "where to place it" on the handlebars or on the wrist ?
My experience ,with a modest Polar (Pacer), is for seriuos training (staying
within a 5 beat segment) and racing, it's best to have the monitor on the
handlebar,as to see the actual figures right before your eyes. For long
distance/tourist races with feeding stations etc. it's best to have the monitor
on the arm,as some models tend to go to "zero" left alone just 10 minutes or so
on the bike .
My guess is that for climbing it would be usefull even during races, but when
trying to use it following your competitors in a break-away it might not be that
useful, either you stay there or get out the back one reason or another (not
wanting to pas a certain limit ,and they ride away ,or you do pas it and...).
The advanced models with computerinterface could be used after the race to
analyse,"where and what",so I think for racers even like Armstrong, they would
use a monitor during races.

yours Niels Henningsen

ps. Any comments on Belli's giro exit, nice punch ....
