Hi Francois, Richard
Female cyclists seem slower descending. A month ago a rider was telling us
how when climbing the Ventoux he met a woman climbing at fast speed and
exhausted himself trying to follow her wheel. I can't remember if he was
dropped - I think he almost certainly was - but he'd had a conversation with her
and they met at the top. The woman was Sarah Ullmer who broke the world record
for 3000m pursuit at 2004 Olympics and she told him she was incredibly slow
descending so didn't ride road-races. They set off together and he waited for
her at the bottom. She was 9 minutes behind him. He was an old TT rider so
would be quite slow descending I would expect.
