Well Richard,
it turns out that I had this year the same fate as you last year . I rode a
while with Carol Rasmussen on the first pass, telling her that the 1st woman (at
that point) was just a few seconds ahead and encouraging her. Then she dropped
out of sight as she did not manage to hold on to our wheels going downhill.

Then I did not see her again until less than 2 km from the finish, when it was
her turn to encourage me - before flying away - as she probably saw how much I
was suffering on that last climb.

I also like very much that event, hard to beat in terms of panoramic views.

Cheers
François

I prefered this event to the Marmotte -- a bit less of a slog, a bit
more like a race, since people rode in groups more often in the places
between the various climbs.

When I rode it I dropped Carol Rasmussen, the winner of one of the
women's categories that year, on the climb up to Villard-Reculas,
which is about halfway, but she reeled me in, caught and passed me in
the final 500 metres before Vaujany.
