I was kinda wondering how we could go so long with no postings too. Good to hear
you're all still out there.
I'm one of the rare ones evidently who ride only indoors once the snow flies and
stays there until the roads are clear. Usually that means late December through
late February. My season really doesn't start to ramp up until May. Life's
realities are, well, real. It's OK though, because once riding season comes
around I feel no guilt whatsoever when I do ride. :^)
Frank, Looked at the writeup for the Tour de Cashiers. That looked like a
toughie - some apparently big climbs with one 'em saved for near the end and
frequent ups and downs. Personally I find the up and down and up and down can be
just as tiring as up, up, up and down, down, down. And the TT hillclimb looks
like a fun added touch. So why is this ride so darn early in the season? The
heat gets that bad that quickly in the year?
Francois, You look great. Better to stick to skiing (IMHO) until you can get out
and not risk ruining your season by hitting a patch of ice and getting hurt
because you just had to go for a ride in mid-February.
Nigel, Where do you get the time for all this training? You bucking for a pro
contract? Do you have any key goals for the seaon?
Nate, How's the weather down in NJ? We've had a lot of snow up here in metro
Boston. Just got 3 more inches last night.
Well, anyway hope all is well. In a few weeks most of us (even me) will be out
there on the roads. For me though it's outside now to do cross training -
shovelling snow.
Well, Nigel, looks like you are ready for a quick start in 2005. As for myself,I have done 2 good training rides (2-3 hours) this year, plus maybe 5-6 1-hour...

Nigel, you're obviously dedicated! I too will be doing the early season hilly's and the odd 2-day but I'm struggling to get the training required due to work...

... Way to go, John! Some people think the east facing side of Baxter (on the Echo Park side) is steeper than Fargo. I don't think I've ever riden any...
I put my inclinometer on Baxter and got 30% while Fargo was 32-33% so I think Fargo is a bit steeper (it certainly looks steeper as well). I have heard that...

Is Baxter *wider* than Fargo? I have found that a narrow road at a particular gradient looks steeper when looking up the road than a wide road of the same...
They are the same width (also essentially the same length). If you stand at the bottom of both you can see that Fargo gains a tad more elevation (borne out by...

Every cyclist has their own "fix" or preference, but I personally think that what to drink will be more important than what you eat. I started using "Amino...
The Fargo Street Hill Climb is over. The idea is to make it up the hill without stopping. But there have been a few years when riders have tried to make more...
Hi Dave Congatulations on a great ride. From the narrative it was very exciting and it's just a shame you were beaten by one ascent. But this was real...
