Re: [kom_] Marmotte questions

Very difficult to compare Marmotte to specific climbs
like tourmalet aubisque. It is probably good to know
that in general Marmotte climbs are regular and do not
have any extremely steep sections (unlike other
popular events like otztaler marathon). Steepest part
is probably in the beginning of the croix de fer.

Combination of telegraphe / galibier is a very long
climb (34 km) and most difficult part is near the end.
From Plan Lachat to the top is 9 km and avareges 8 to
9 % Again this section is also very regular. In
that respect I think Tourmalet is very similar to
Galibier (but obviously shorter)

A remark based on Brians advice. If you are going for
a mountain cyclo experience (very good idea) and you
want to avoid the problems at the start (6000
participants), try to pick one from the Grand trophee
(marmotte is part of this challenge). If you have a
good result in this one you can apply for a 'dossard
prioritaire'. This enables you to start in the first
pack (about 250 riders I guess) and to arrive only a
couple of minutes before the start. Most probably
there will be an event in the vosges area (trois
ballons) 3 to 4 weeks before and one around Mt Ventoux
about 5 weeks before.

Ps date for next year seem to be confirmed. For thr
first time in a long time (or even in its history?)
Marmotte will be held on second weekend of july ie
July 9th. Vaujany probably one week before.

I'm thinking of doing La Marmotte next year. I think the most I've done is three cols in one day on the Raid Pyreneen, which I completed this year. I'm a fit...

The Marmotte is not always on the 1st week-end of July. It was already as late as July 9 in 1983, 1988 and 1995. In 2000 it was held on July 1st, the earliest...
