Hi everyone!
We are continuing to plan KiteFest 2009 and it's coming together wonderfully.
The dates are set for May 29, 30, 31, 2009. We have some great people working on
thing including Trace, George and myself and many local and international
business helping out. Our principle sponsor is now F-One Kites from France. They
make top of the line kites and boards and will be hooking us up with some of
their sweet new kites and boards to demo on the beach. They are also giving us
all kinds of stuff, from shirts to stickers, hats and more. Sean at Cosmic
Kitchen, the only kiter owned restaurant in town, is hooking us up with food at
cost for the whole weekend. Event Participants will get cheap food there anytime
they want. Sean has also been good enough to let us party at Cosmic Kitchen
Saturday night with beer, music and dinner. Kevin Co at Cinema 127 is hosting
our Movie Night on Friday. We will be able to watch some of the best new kite
videos on a big screen.
We have planned some fun events including a body dragging comp and a kite
pumping up comp, which will be a hoot for spectators. We will also have a race
down the spit; wind permitting. These comps will have prizes.
We also have a regular schedule of classes, free for everyone who donates, which
include Intro to Kiting, Boddy Dragging/Water Relaunch, Kite Repair and
Intermediate Techniques. Be sure to check out the YAHOO! KITESURF ALASKA
calendar for exact times. They may continue to be changed and updated.
This year we will have a suggested donation of US$15 for one day, or US$40 for
all three days of the event. With this donation you may attend any of the
scheduled classes for free, you may enter the comps, you may use any demo gear
(kites and boards), you will be able to attend Movie Night free and you will get
food at cost (cheap!) from Cosmic Kitchen all weekend! We will also be giving
away all kinds of free stuff from F-One. Participants will also get a free event
poster.
Since we are a volunteer run event and are also not for profit, we are looking
or volunteers to help out here and there. We need people for the following jobs:
-welcome participants and get them signed in
-safety observer
If you think you might want to help up out for a few hours, let me know
(travelerphotography@... / 907 299 1119). Those who volunteer for 5 hrs.
or more will be able to attend the event for free (3 days).
This year's event is going to be bigger and better and a hell of alot more fun
(if that's even possible)! Tell your friends and come on down, May 29-32, 2009
in Homer!
