Hey Mikey,
I think the ice that day was the detractor, with snow there is
no problem parking the kite, but with ice everything is slick. If
you have enough traction to hold the kite down, such as digging in
with snow, there's no problem.
When I'm in the chicken loop, I let the trim all the way out,
the Frenzy will be powered with the bar floating in the middle of
the chicken line. Letting the bar all the way out will de-power the
kite, pulling the bar all the way in will add a touch of brakes to
the kite, slowing it down in gusts. You may also pull the trim tab
in from an inch to all the way to increase the depower range of the
kite.
To bring the kite down, make sure the trim is pulled in (to
depower the kite) and make sure you are out of the chicken loop.
Now you can pull the brake line in while holding the bar away from
you and watch the kite stall and fall to the ground. If the kite
ever goes nose down, you may repeat these steps to relaunch it.
Simply pull the brakes while holding the bar away, hold the brake
line for a few seconds and watch the Frenzy back up and flip over.
The key to remember is that you cannot have any line pulled on
the depower line if you want the brakes to work effectively. If
you are pulling on any of the leading edge lines (depower lines) ,
this will counter-act the brakes.
If you have any questions, drop me a line, I'm happy to help out
in any way. I recommend flying the kite this summer in a park and
get comfortable with its characteristics in lighter winds.
