We exist to encourage and support Christian
martial artists. I look forward to fellowshipping with
you.
Hi boomshanka,

I'd be interested in
hearing your story - how you came to know Christ, how you
think you drifted away from the faith, and where you
are now.

I look forward to reading what you
have to say.

pkw
I am just dropping by to let you know that I
finally have a section on the martial arts on my web
site.

It isn't much yet, but to see what I have so far, go
here:

http://www.seghea.com/pat/martialart/maindex.html

I have
big plans for the future, including photos
of my family members involved in the martial arts,
and more articles on martial arts from the Christian
perspective.

Pat

Well, it's been awhile since I've been here. I've
missed a lot, as I can see...

Hey Riverside --
You kill me, man ("HWRANG in there")...

As for
why God/Christ has to do with MA, my research has my
research has pointed me back to the first known true
civilization, which was in China around 2200 BC.
Coincidentally, Hinduism, the basis of all Eastern religions such
as Buddhism, Confusianism, Shinto, etc., dates back
to 1500 BC, meaning that there must have been
something previous to it. This ancient civilization in
China had records of fighting techniques and fighting
styles. What their extensive records also showed was many
similarities to other records found amongst the Egyptians,
Babylonians, and Sumarians, who also had records of fighting
systems. Three distinct similarities found amongst these
civilizations were the story of the great flood, a common
origin which pointed to the Middle East, and the worship
of a monotheistic god. The ancient Chinese symbols
are particular interesting in that they depicted the
story of Adam and Eve, their expulsion from the Garden
and the punishment of man, God's grace and plan of
salvation, the story of Cain and Abel, the Tower of Babel,
and the migration - stories all confirming the early
chapters of Genesis.

Piecing this together would
give a somewhat logical story and evolution of martial
arts: Man was created in the image of God, having no
distinct offensive or defensive weapons. But when sin
entered into the world, man was forced to defend himself,
his wife, his children, his food and other belongings
from thieves and raiders. Not having any natural
weapons, man was forced to
use the only real weapon he
had that other creatures did not: his analytical
mind. So he was able to create fighting techniques to
defend against his attackers.

As people migrated
east, to India and China, they took those fighting
techniques with them, and they eventually evolved into what
we see today. Concurrently, people also migrated
north and west, where there was the development of
fencing, boxing, and wrestling. Europe was also where
metal was abundant, thus giving birth to the knights,
which were in the same class as the
samurai of
Japan, where metal was scarce and technology and foreign
relations slow to develop.

Hope this helps...
This is fun to disagree cause there some to write
about. In fact sciecist have found dinosaures that are
of the same breed of creature but they look
different in different time periods. Like 100 million years
ago there was prenoasurous and that thing KEPT
changing for millions of years until it EVOLED in to T-rex
and there cousins. And anicent man we have many old
PRE-man skulls. And other thing why did GOD creat
bacteria first? Why are dinoasures and different animals
existed MILLIONS of years before HUMANS
and why did he
creat us billions of years after the first life form
>>>>Bacteria?I thought humans were here since god made the world
well i guess that is not true.
Why do publice
school are forbinning to teach GOD and that god made us.
The answer is simple there are no proof of any to
subport that idea!!!! Science is base on proven facts and
we have disproven many things about religious
teachings like that fact that the univerese revolves around
the earth or the earth is the center of the universes
is PROVEN NOT TRUE!! That gods live in the sky hey
we went to the skys theres no kingkom up there and
come on we went to space still nothing up there! And
the reason we don't have many skeleton of PRE-humans
is because we only started looking! And what about
GOD saying he made animals so were can EAT? If he
made animals so we can eat why did he make animal that
are not eat-able? And how can a being (GOD) just
exist. No one made him so how can something just exsit out
of no where i find that amazing.
May be i will
find that god is real who knows maybe i will go to
hell. I believe the only real god is in us all and what
we believe in.
Even science admits that energy cannot be
destroyed, just re-formed. Likewise it cannot be created.
So, where did the energy come from?
If we don't
need God, prove it. Make me another man, but get your
own dirt. Don't use the stuff that God left
here.
You said that we probably hate you, but that is
wrong. Heck, you are probably going to get a lot of
thinking going for everybody so please don't
leave!
Hwrang in there!
Not one person here hates you. If they do, they
are not in the right club.
Try to remind yourself
though that evolution has never been proven. There are
partial (very partial) remains of what is called
cro-magnum man, but what is left of those remains is very
small and very damaged. Also, to prove evolution, you
would have to admit that every living animal on the
planet has evolved from something else. Look at the
dinosaurs for example: if you go to a musuem, there are no
half dino/half something else skeletons on display.
They don't exist. Either it is a 100% dino or
something else. There are no in betweenies. The only
arguement to that is the remains of the aerchoterox--it
looks like a lizard with feathers. There are only 3
examples of aerchoterox existing and those 3 don't have
any ancestors. It was an odd animal (like bats) but
it didn't carry on. Plus, there are literally
trillions of skeletons of animals from that period, but
only 3 of those.
_____
Same with the humans. If
evolution happened, why do we only have about a dozen
partial skeletons of "early humans." Why don't we have
millions as we do of other animals from that same time
period?
Think about that last thing I just wrote.
I'm buddhist but i believe in evolotion and
science has GOD. and that GOD is not a being but
a
person made up by humans who could not understand why
things happen or how the are alive so they made up god
to explain what the don't know. i know this is
stupid and you all hate me now but this is just my
stupid opinion. So dis if you may but that would'nt
change what science has told me long ago
I thought buddhism created the martial arts for
protection.I never knew god had some thing to do with it.ohh
well i don't care who created the martial arts i just
know i love it!!!i'm buddhist and i don't know why i'm
in here.

Well take care and HWARANG!!
He made the martial arts. In fact, he made
EVERYTHING. And if you want to argue what he made it or not,
don't bother. If you think that humans made the arts,
keep in mind that God made humans, therefore He is the
source of all creation.
Also, the martial arts line
up nicely with the inherent concepts of
Christianity. The arts teach to love all people and defend
yourself when you have to. This is a core concept in
Christianity. Jesus himself loved all but did carry a staff for
self-defence. Talk to any preacher/priest and they will admit
that Jesus was probably a pretty good fighter-seeing
that he had so much experience.
Now the most
important part of all of this is that you have to realize
that Christ should be in every part of your life. He
made you and He loves you, therefore you should be
humble and remind yourself constantly all of the things
that He has done for you.
That last thing I just
wrote is what Christ has to do with the ma's. He should
be in every part of your life.
Good luck.
Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe new year. In
the year to come may God use you and your gifts to spread His message and glory
throughout the whole earth.
I just created a photo album. It's called
"Members In Action" It's open to any of you who want to
post a picture of you, or your friends, or students
working on your/their martial arts skills. I think it
would be interesting to see each other in action, as we
all study different styles. Ken.
Hi eveyone, I'm glad I found a club that is about
the martial arts AND is Christ-centered. Here is more
about me:

Name: Ken Sanderson
Address:

I just joined your club. I am a BB in KajuKenfu
Budo Kai Khan. (Part of the tree of Kaju kenbo and
Kaju Kenpo). I have recently been asked to teach at
the Catholic Youth Ministry at my church on a
volunteer basis. I have accepted and ran a test module last
Sunday. All were receptive. I am proud to be a member of
kicken for Christ.
Jim
Hi there.....just the club I was looking for as I
don't know any other christians who presently practice
martial arts. I am a member of the KDS
(Karate-do-Shotokai) of which there are presently only 3 schools in
the US, most are in the UK where I practice, the
chief instructor and president of the KDS Mitsusuke
Harada is also resident in the UK. I have been
practicing karate for 6 years now and have been a 1st Dan
for a year. As a 1st kyu I was a assistant instructor
at a large school at college, where having the
respect for my grade I was also able firstly able to
witness through my actions as on view to beginners all
the time, but also for what I could do.
Non-christians often view christians as being physically weak
for some reasons, even though as christians we should
strive to be spiritualy and mentally strong firstly,
physical strength can be an advantage too as it can be a
way of getting talking, not that being the strongest
is what karate is all about, but you get what I
mean. This week I have started a new college. My degree
is in health and fitness studies, before that I did
a 2 year degree in sports studies. Which I find of
great benefit as many martial artists and instructors
still practice contraversial and contra-indicated
exercises and stretchs.
I must go study, so, so long
for now

Zack
Welcome, tkimm! Not that I should have that honor
of welcoming new people - the founders probably
should. But I'm excited to hear about how God is working
in different people's lives, especially our youth.
Not that I'm all that old, but I remember what being
a teen was like very vividly, and it seems a lot
more difficult just one generation later. Anyhow, I
hope we both look forward to sharing and encouraging
one another in our unique endeavors.

To the
founders/fascilitators of this forum: Could we get a new logo? Just a
cross or something; it doesn't have to be fancy. But I
think it would be good to get a symbol representative
of our stance. Just a thought...
Well,

I've finally found a place where
the two things I love most come together in one
place. I have high hopes for this club. First let me say
a few things.
I'm 16 years old, male, and a
junior in high school. I am currently a second degree
black belt in Taekwondo and have just recently started
Wushu. I have been a christian for about 2 years now. I
just returned from missions and truly learned that God
does use all of ones abilities to show his glory. Down
in Oaxaca Mexico martial arts is really popular, but
not too many people are skilled in it. So when people
who are skilled in any martial arts arrives than it's
a real treat for the people. By opening up and
showing them a thing or two the seed of Christ is planted
and soon God makes that seed grow.
I hope that
this club will be really edifying for me. I also hope
to meet new people that share the same interests as
me. Now if there was only a club about food... =)
One of my sons actually used his martial arts
training to help win a boy to Christ.

Here's what
happened. There was a boy who had gotten in trouble with
the law. The judge ordered him either to go to
juvenile detention, or he had to be placed in a foster
home where he would receive proper care. He chose to
live with his aunt and uncle, and that was when we met
him. My two youngest sons, Philip (now third degree
black in Taekwondo) and Victor (now second degree black
in Taekwondo) befriended him. They treated him with
respect. This was new for this boy, who had some mental
challenges as well. One day, the boy informed Victor that he
was going to beat Victor up. Victor said, Go ahead.
So the boy attacked Victor, and Victor laid him
neatly onto the ground. The boy attacked again. Once
more, Victor laid him neatly onto the ground. After
five attempts the boy gave up. Later, the boy
committed himself to Christ, and his aunt came to me and
expressed his appreciation for what my sons had done. She
considers that they deserve part of the credit for helping
him turn his life around.

By using his martial
arts training in the way he did, Victor won the boy's
respect. This can be so important, especially when a boy
respects only force and power.

There is more than
one reason for learning a martial art.

Victor
has been called into the ministry. I told him that
his martial arts training would ALWAYS help him win
the respect of certain people, and that it would
serve him well in his ministry.

Pat
