Hello.
The only thing you have to be careful
with a JKD school is there is only ONE person
certified to teach it. That is Dan Inosanto. If Inosanto is
not the head teacher at that school, then the school
is in some way a sham.
Inosanto was Bruce Lee's
best friend and main student.
Now, Lee certified
people in 3 different arts: wing chun kung fu, Jun Fan
kung fu (Jun Fan in Lee's birth name), and jeet kune
do. The last of which only Inosanto was promoted
in.
Lee did contradict himself heavily by promoting
anyone in JKD. Lee stated over and over that JKD is not
a style - it is just a name for an attitude (see
page 12 of the Tao of Jeet Kune Do), yet he promoted
people in rank in something that he swore does not
exist. He said many times that to use JKD, one had to
learn another style, then unlearn it by throwing out
all useless techniques. Therefore, what was left was
that person's personal JKD.
A year before he died,
he disbanded all JKD schools, which essentially left
Inosanto to lead.
Ask the head instructor about this.
Like I said, Inosanto is the ONLY one that can teach
JKD. Now, your new instructor may be teaching Jun Fan
Kung Fu. Inosanto has promoted many people in Jun Fan
kung fu, but that is a different thing and if someone
renames it to JKD, then they are lying to get more
students.
Keep us updated and good
luck.
_______________________
Go to <a
