One of my sons actually used his martial arts
training to help win a boy to Christ.<br><br>Here's what
happened. There was a boy who had gotten in trouble with
the law. The judge ordered him either to go to
juvenile detention, or he had to be placed in a foster
home where he would receive proper care. He chose to
live with his aunt and uncle, and that was when we met
him. My two youngest sons, Philip (now third degree
black in Taekwondo) and Victor (now second degree black
in Taekwondo) befriended him. They treated him with
respect. This was new for this boy, who had some mental
challenges as well. One day, the boy informed Victor that he
was going to beat Victor up. Victor said, Go ahead.
So the boy attacked Victor, and Victor laid him
neatly onto the ground. The boy attacked again. Once
more, Victor laid him neatly onto the ground. After
five attempts the boy gave up. Later, the boy
committed himself to Christ, and his aunt came to me and
expressed his appreciation for what my sons had done. She
considers that they deserve part of the credit for helping
him turn his life around.<br><br>By using his martial
arts training in the way he did, Victor won the boy's
respect. This can be so important, especially when a boy
respects only force and power.<br><br>There is more than
one reason for learning a martial art.<br><br>Victor
has been called into the ministry. I told him that
his martial arts training would ALWAYS help him win
the respect of certain people, and that it would
