Subject: [kickbiking] Fun, kickbike-aware website

I found this website recently (while searching for kick-scooter news) -
"media & things for 'transition era' fun ... since 1991," it's called "Out
Your Backdoor: a world of DIY culture"

<http://outyourbackdoor.com/>

I'm mentioning it here because they have had two articles in the past on
"kickbikes":

<http://www.outyourbackdoor.com/article.php?id=822>
<http://outyourbackdoor.com/article.php?id=819>

...and, Richard M., there have been more than a few articles on
human-powered speed records, too:

<http://www.outyourbackdoor.com/article.php?id=1040>
<http://www.outyourbackdoor.com/article.php?id=803>
<http://www.outyourbackdoor.com/article.php?id=806> etc.

The site's not updated too often, a couple of times a month, but there's a
lot of reading there already on all kinds of fun esoterica for the new
visitor.

BTW I've put a bunch of pics of my Kickbike and Footbike on Flickr:

<http://flickr.com/search/?q=kickbike&w=45464096%40N00>
<http://flickr.com/search/?q=footbike&w=45464096%40N00>

PS: Any thoughts on a generic identifier/name for our Kickbikes,
Footbikes, etc., like "kick-scooter" or "sport-scooter"? I think
"kickbike" does fill the bill; I've heard regular bicycles called
"footbikes" in places where "bike" suggests "moped" (mainly here and
Bermuda), and "scooter" also seems to suggest "moped" to everyone I
mention the term to. Wikipedia's entry that includes them ("Scooters made
for racing") is called "Kick scooter":
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kick_scooter>. (Also some people ironically
call motorcycles "scooters.") I feel a poll coming on...

I agree we need a new generic identifier. I always describe my Mibo as a nonmotorized kick scooter, but it never seems to register until I say "like a kid's...
