Sunday was trail maintenance day at the Osage Hills
Mountain Bike trails: Randy Cummings, Jay Halferty,
Rudy Geissler, Mike Howze and Corey Cohen began
cleaning up the mountain bike trails at the park.
Mike, Randy and Rudy provided gas brush trimmers,
Jay rakes and shovels, and Corey provided kibbitzing,
water, second guessing and backing vocals on all tracks.
We got about two and a half of the approximately
seven trail-miles pared of the grass overgrowth and
deadfall. The upper meadow of the Blue loop is now
clear and rideable at speed. We got part of the Red
loop cleared, thanks to Rudy's commercial brush
trimmer; we've got more to go because there is just
so much more long grass to trim back. The beginner's
White trail was cleared.
A major change was a re-route of
the return descent to the final creek crossing that
goes back to the parking lot. The original sweeping left
hand bend is heavily eroded, so a hard left-hander was added
at the top of the bend, which then comes back right and
now turns into a series of switchbacks down to the
creek bed. A bit more fun at the final leg and hopefully
easing erosion at that point.
Found was a Topeak Alien multi tool, if it's your's and
you can tell me what other accessory is in the pouch, call
at 918-333-9222 and claim it. Also, a pedal reflector was
added to the recycling bin.
Hopefully more folks will get out to ride there now,
as the trails will me more pleasant and faster. Thanks to all
who helped!
