David,

See below for gameplan on trail clearing day w/ the Riverpark Authority.   Can you send out to the Keystone e-mail group too??
I believe you said you work on Saturdays, but I would love to have you there as a group leader if possible?
Thanks, Scott

The Riverparks has asked me to lead a trail clearing day at Turkey on Sat Dec 29th.
Tonja w/ the Riverparks sent the e-mail below w/ all necessary information.   The goal is get at least 25 people out w/ 5 group leaders leading groups of 4-5 people.   We need at least 5 chainsaws (I believe I have 3 lined up) so if anyone else has some please let me know.
We will split up and tackle different parts of the mt.   We can knock a bunch of stuff out in a relatively short amount of time if we can get enough people to show.   Please contact me if you can fit it into the Holiday schedule!
Thanks, Scott

Turkey Mountain Enthusiasts:

I hope this note finds you well and with electricity.

As you have likely observed since the ice storm on December 9th, River Parks maintenance crews have been focused on clearing trails and park property along Riverside Drive.  Next they will concentrate on clearing the west bank trail and then the Katy Trail, which is virtually impassable.

River Parks Authority has received calls from many trial users who want to help remove fallen trees, branches and limbs from the trails on Turkey Mountain.  We've received enough calls that we ought to have some fun with this and organize an event to get the job done.

Date:                    Saturday, December 29th
Time:                    10am to 2pm
Where to meet:      Turkey Mountain Parking Lot

We will form small work groups to tackle the main trails.  The goal is to move trees, logs and other brush that are blocking the trails.  We will not haul these items out, but simply move items to the sides of the trails.

Please bring any equipment you might need:  chainsaws, bow saws, nippers, rope, work gloves, safety glasses, etc.

Some of our local cycling and running shops are donating door prizes for our volunteers, and I'm looking for donations of snacks/lunch and beverages from local restaurants (cross your fingers).

The Holidays are a busy time.  Join us if you can, and please invite any other Turkey Mountain trails enthusiasts.

If you have any questions about helping at Turkey Mountain or if you would like to assist in any other area of the River Parks, please contact me at 645-7424 or tpitzer@...

We appreciate you,

Tonja

Note:
If you clear any of the Turkey Mountain trails on your own, RPA asks that you follow these guidelines:
>  Trees, logs and other brush that are blocking the trails may be moved off the trails and left beside the trail.  They do not need to be hauled out.
Do not stack wood or brush in the parking lots as this will invite others to bring in their debris
Most importantly, please proceed with caution in this heavily treed area and keep safety as your first prioirity.

Isn't it possible to rent chain saws somewhere? It's like a regular tool. Might check that out to get the extra chain saws you are wanting. -amy ... From:...
