Kent Ravens Men's first team came close in their first pre-season friendly of 2006, when they narrowly lost out 44 points to 34 away to determined Bedford Tigers. The Ravens who entered this game with ten players on debut with four tennagers in teh ranks too went behind early from the kick off when Bedford scored under the posts, however helped with a sin binning for an illegal tackle the Ravens took control in the first half with tries from powerful Prop John Richardson, two from speedy debutant Ben Seru and winger Alex Hatzidakis. The second half was a close affair and unfortunately the Tigers took the lead with a controversial try but injuries and inexperience took their toll on the Ravens when Bedford took charge early in the second half, but tries from new signing Edward Easter, another two from Seru and a hat trick of goals from Stand off Darren Griffin pegged the Kent side back and finished the match on a high note however the match finished with a win for the home side.
The men's first team have their next pre-season friendly at home This Saturday, 29th April 2006 with a kick off at 2:30pm at our home ground on the corner of Eltham Palace Road and Middle Park avenue, entry is FREE to everyone, so hopefully you can all make it to see the Kent Ravens take on Southend Seaxes in their debut match.
This Saturday will see the first pre-season friendly for the Kent Ravens men's 1st team, when they take on Bedford Tigers and This will be the third encounter between these 2 sides in the last three years, with the honours currently even at 1 win apiece. However this will be the first time that the Kent club have ventured into Bedfordshire to play a club that are ver similar to our own!
The game takes place at the Bedford International Athletics Stadium this Saturday at 2.30pm and Admission is free for all.
please note that Ravens players are asked to meet at our club at 10:45am.
Darts' Stadium could offer Rugby League excitement during summer
Dartford Football Club's new stadium at Princes Park could be offering sporting excitement all-year-round year if discussions with a growing rugby league team are successful.
The Kent Ravens, who currently play in Eltham, have approached the Council with a request to play at Princes Park during the football closed-season from Summer 2007. The arrangement would ensure that the stadium is busy right through the year.
Cllr Jeremy Kite, Leader of Dartford Borough Council, says discussions are still at an early stage but the opportunity of a summer sport at Princes Park would be hugely beneficial for the football club and the whole of Dartford.
"Dartford Football Club's new ground is simply superb and deserves to be in use during the four summer months when football is out of season. The Kent Ravens could be an ideal solution and ensure the stadium offers family sport all through the year. Naturally, the interests of the football club come first but the pitch suppliers have told us that the ground is more than capable of handling the use."
Alan Bacon, Chairman of Kent Ravens, says of the potential benefits:
"Princes Park is a hugely exciting project and we're pleased to be having these with discussions with Jeremy and his colleagues. This is something we hope will propel us into the national leagues within a few years whilst at the same time bringing the sport to the town.
We're very much a family friendly, community-based, club, with teams at all age groups and the only women's team in south east London and Kent."

RUGBY LEAGUE: The Kent Ravens are appealing for new players to swell their ranks as their prepare to kick-off their new season.
The Eltham-based side are preparing for life in the National Rugby League Conference after securing promotion last season and are keen for reinforcements to help them in what they anticipate will be a tough season.
Training starts on february 15 for the men's set up, March 1 for the women's and April 13 for all the youth teams.
Club chairman Alan Bacon said: "The club is made up of lots of people from different backgrounds including experienced rugby league players, local rugby union players and many that haven't even seen a rugby game before. There is great potential for players at all levels"
The RFL are holding a Match Officials course held on the 26th of February at
the Stoop.
Phil Jones the Harlequins RL Player Performance Manager is delighted that
this is happening “It is one of the areas where we need more people
involved. With the game expanding throughout the Capital and Home Counties
at Schools, Junior Clubs and Senior’s we need more Refs to officiate the
fixtures. The ones already involved under the leadership of Simon Mathews
(Head of the London Referees Society) are doing a great job and have raised
the standards but they just need more people to cover all the games”
The Course is one day starting at 9am and finishing around 4:30pm
For more information please e-mail the Match Officials department at
matchofficials@... or call 0113 237 5517 and speak to Ashley Klein.

I'm hoping to make it down on Sunday. All depends on how my date goes on Saturday night.
I was wondering if Roy made it down to the training session last week? and if he did, how did he do?
He's going to go play for Wests, but I will send out an email to my list seeing if I can get anyone down to Kent. It's probably unlikely as most of them are in North West London, but I can always ask.
As you are all probably aware Coach Education are rewriting all the courses to fit in with new national Criteria the hoped relaunch was to have been early this year, however the process is even bigger than 1st thought – writing course material, training staff. So the 1st course will not be till the Autumn, therefore in the meantime realizing that all areas need to qualify coaches they are allowing each Region (London, Yorkshire) to run 1 Club Coach and 1 Mod Games Course. These qualifications will be transferred across when the new qualifications come out.
The details for ours are:-
Both at Feltham Community College
Club Coach
Saturday 4th March Sunday 5th March Sunday 12th March
Mod Games
Sunday 2nd April Sunday 9th April
Clearly demand is going to be high and places will be allocated on a 1st come 1st served basis. Please get this out to interested people ASAP.
I have attached Booking forms for both Courses.
Please let me known as well as Coach Ed when somebody books on the course.
Any questions drop me a line
PLEASE FORWARD THIS ON TO ANY CLUB I HAVE FORGOTTEN TO INCLUDE THANKS
Thanks

The Rugby Rebellion - The Divide of League and Union is the first book to tell the true history of the most dramatic period in Australian sport - the era that gave birth to rugby league and transformed rugby union.
This remarkable time, when any sportswriter worth his salt would surely have been glad to be alive, is the backdrop for Sean Fagan's brilliantly researched book.
Library and archive hours beyond counting, in which Fagan studied in the finest detail the documentation and media coverage of the times has produced a book of immense value to both codes.
His findings will change our understanding of how League and Union separated in Australia - how professionalism existed in NSW rugby in the late 1890s, Dally Messenger's real role in the uprising, Burdon's 'shoulder injury', the significance of the 'Kangaroos' and 'Wallabies' names, how the Wallabies defected in 1909, the part that British and New Zealand authorities played, and the impact of the 'Lions' tour of 1910.
In its unfolding way, it is a thrilling tale - of an uprising by footy-playing working class blokes, dismayed they were not getting a `fair go' from those who ran their game, and the outcome of that anger. These stunning events of a century ago forever changed our sporting winters.
Already there is a swirl of anticipation and excitement surrounding the book - it is a history book, but it reads like a novel. Ian Heads, the author of many League and Union books has lauded The Rugby Rebellionas "A fabulous sporting story".
Look out for some great bargains this month including reduced London Broncos 2005 gear from Carlotti, 2004 shirts and waterproofs from ISC, Classic sportswear Wales and England clothing, 50% off selected NRL shirts and TRI NATIONS balls plus many many more available online. Ian & Vicki,
We will definitely be at the Xmas party on 3rd December - thanks. (we will also
be watching Dave make a fool of himself in the tag match beforehand!).
Don't know if you know but we have created a memorial website for Adam and,
under the legacy part, we would like to add a write-up about the Kent Ravens
Youth Award - can you just remind me of the date of the presentation and the
lad's name who won it please? If it's OK with you, I'll also add in a link to
the KR website. You can have a look at Adam's website on:
http://adamdonnelly.com/
Anyway, look forward to seeing you on the 3rd December.
