League leaders beaten by flying Ravens

Kent Ravens 46 v Swindon S George 38

Round 3: Rugby League Conference, London & South-East Region

The Mortgage Life UK Sponsored Kent Ravens Rugby league headed into round 3 of the RLC London & South-east league in mid table with one win and one lose and this time Kent played host to the league leaders and unbeaten side Swindon St. George. The surprise of the season so far unfolded in the first half as the kent side pulled out a massive lead at the shock of the visiting St George side and all the spectators who were geared up for the close game, but two tries a piece from returning Michael Newton and Alan Mount put the Ravens in total control. Swindon may have been able to add a handful of points bt further points from Ravens captain Carl Morgan, Mark Mooney, Constantine Hatzidkis and powerhouse prop Sean Frankland sealed the win for the Kent ravens but it was not that easy with half an hour to go as Swindon showed why they were top as they put pressure on the New ash green side and closed the points gap more and more as the final whistle approached, but last ditch defence from the Ravens kept the gap to at least 8 points and two scored from safety to finally win 46 v 38 to move up to joint first place points in the table.

The win over the lead league ended a perfect week for the Kent Ravens as on Wednesday a record six of the Ravens squad were also selected for representative honours for the South of London and congratulation must go to Carl Morgan, Nick Mcpherson, Sean Frankland, Alan Mount and the Hatzidakis Brothers: Alex and Constantine as they join up with the representative training squad on the 25th as they gear up to play the north.

Next Saturday will see the local derby as the Kent Ravens play host the local rivals Greenwich Admirals at New Ash Green at 2:30pm on Saturday 30th May and entry is free for everyone looking to support the Ravens in their push for the 2009 title

If your interested in playing with the conference for the Kent ravens, you’re 16 or over and even if your not experienced please do not hesitate to contact the club on 07707 852 952, email alan@... or see www.kentravens.co.uk.
