New Season for Ravens but so close, so far!

Guildford Giants 36 x Kent Ravens 34

Round 1: Rugby League Conference, London & South-East Region

The Mortgage Life UK Sponsored Kent Ravens Rugby league started there new 2009 season after promotion on the road, away to an experienced Guildford Giants team who were also making there debut at this level. With the recent financial boost from the sponsors and the massive turn out the club is getting of new players this season it may not have been a total shock to people within the club when the New Ash Green based club took control of the first half in Guildford using their positive and powerful running game, guided by in-form captain Carl Morgan and play maker Tom White who between them bagged three of the tries for the Ravens that saw the visiting team go in at half time 16 v 26 up.

The second half continued in a high tempo fashion and also more of the same from the Kentish side as more points were added from Charlie Sheppard and the forward continued to muscle their way through the Giants defence but to be fair both teams were well matched and gave as good as they got as with only seven minutes to go on the clock the match was locked at 32 v 34 to the Ravens, but as Kent ran out of their own half a fracas saw a player from either side shown an uncharacteristic red card each and the giants used the momentum of the resulting penalty with an up and under kick to catch the Ravens in disarray in defence and scoring the final points of the match breaking the hearts of Morgan and his battling team.

The Ravens will look to build on this good start to the season as they play Oxford cavaliers at their home at the New Ash Green Sports Pavilion at 2:30pm this Saturday, entrance is free to everyone, so do come and show your support.

If your interested in playing with the conference for the Kent ravens, you’re 16 or over and even if your not experienced please do not hesitate to contact the club on 07707 852 952, email alan@... or see www.kentravens.co.uk. Training is open to everyone each and every Monday and Thursday evenings at 7:30pm at New Ash Green Sports Pavilion, Punchcroft Road DA3 8HS
