University teach the Ravens a lesson

Kent Ravens…                     16

Greenwich University      20

This stern test proved a positive step for five Ravens’ first team players coming back from injury as the club now looks forward to the start of the play off campaign in two weeks. The Kent side raced into a early lead when experience seemed to shine through as loose forward Joe Oxford run through the university defence to add the first points of the match, but it was a bad injury to Oxford just two minutes later that swung the momentum the other way, Oxford went down awkwardly in a heavy Tackle breaking and displacing his ankle and our best wishes are with him during this time.

The match restarted with Greenwich university clearly more determined for win racked up an impressive 14 points before the half time as the Kent Ravens looked to have lost the knowledge on how to win after two previous away defeats, the sides went in 4 vs. 14.

It was Greenwich who continued on the front foot when the match restarted, as they added to their tally with a controversial try in the corner and conversion in the early minutes of the second period, this seemed to get the Ravens out of their shell now being 16 points down at their own Princes Park stadium. Kent started to use their powerful forward pack and the university did not have a answer as Andre Karon coming back from injury first added a try with Aiden Oakley adding the two points and after two close attempts where by Oliver Lewis and Oakley himself both came close to score but for last ditch tackles by Greenwich’s highly impressive back line. But it was man of the match Jose Corriera who added the final try of the night and Oakley added the extras, final score 16 vs. 20.

With over 10 players looking to be back in contention for the Ravens next week, the Kent Ravens visit 7th placed South London Storm in the last regular league match of the season, Storm will be looking to edge into the final spot of the 6 placed end of season play offs, while the Ravens need a win to guarantee a 4th placed finish and a home tied in the first round of the Play offs which start on Saturday 2nd August.
