A Kent Ravens side with several new players triumphed in an
enthralling contest at Princes Park Stadium.
The Ravens started slowly and went behind early on. This early score
seemed to wake the Kent Ravens, who upped the tempo, and shortly
after Tom White, a debutant, crossed the try line to level the
score. Richard Williams then scored the Ravens second try of the
afternoon. South London Storm did come back into the match, and
scored a second try of their own.
Then Ravens' skipper Aiden Oakley scored a try after a superb run
through the heart of the Storm. Another debutant, Andy Reeve then
scored the team's fourth try. Just before the end of the first half,
Tom White scored his second try on his debut. Aiden Oakley kicked
four goals in the first half to make the half time score 28-10 to
the Ravens.
In the second half the Storm came back strongly and reduced their
arrears but the Ravens were still looking very dangerous in attack.
Another debutant, Tom Spear scored the Ravens sixth and eighth tries
of the match, and in between these was sandwiched a try by another
new face, Steve Say. Joe Oxford, in his second game for the Ravens
scored a try to virtually seal the game for the Kent Ravens. Richard
Williams then topped off a superb afternoon for the Ravens by
scoring his second try of the match. Aiden Oakley kicked a further
three goals in the second half to make the final score 54-42 to the
Kent Ravens.
Before the first team took to the field, the Junior Ravens under 14s
team played against the Medway Dragons. Despite putting in a good
performance the Junior Ravens lost 40-16.
Kent Ravens next game is against Southampton Spitfires at Princes
Park Stadium in Dartford next Saturday the 14th June.
