There have been a couple of exciting developments at Kent Ravens
Rugby League Club in the last week.
Firstly, a great opportunity for all has arisen at the Kent Ravens,
the actual Rugby Football League Challenge Cup, which is currently
held by St. Helens after they beat Catalan Dragons 30-8 at Wembley
in 2007, will be on the Princes Park Stadium pitch at 11am on
Thursday 17th April for people to hold and get their pictures taken
with.
The Challenge Cup first took place in 1897 and has been a major
showpiece of the rugby league season ever since. Since 1929 the
majority of Challenge Cup Finals have been held at Wembley Stadium,
and in 2007 the first Challenge Cup Final was held at the new
Wembley Stadium where St Helens saw off the challenge of the Catalan
Dragons, who were the first side from France to compete in a
Challenge Cup Final.
This is a great opportunity for local schools, media, local sports
clubs and anyone in the local Dartford area to get close to a piece
of history, so please feel free to come along and take part in what
should be an historic day!
The second major development has been the announcement that a member
of the Ravens first team last season, Gary Sargeant has been offered
a Harlequins RL academy contract for this season. This is great news
for the player himself, and also for the Ravens as a club.
Gary was obviously really pleased with the offer and took the
opportunity to thank the people that had made all this
possible. "It's a Harlequins RL academy contract and it runs from
1st April – 30th September. I'd like to take this opportunity to
thank Ed Easter and Adrian Suter for all their guidance and support,
the Ravens for giving me the opportunity to play rugby league, and
my mum for all the travelling.
I wish the Ravens the best of luck for the season, and hopefully
this is going to be the start of a lot of things to come and one
day, hopefully will lead to me becoming a Super League 13 player."
Phil Jones, Player Performance Manager at Harlequins RL also
commented, "Gary has worked really hard during pre season and has
been rewarded with a Reserve/Academy Terms and Conditions
Registration (RATC) which reflects that we expect him to regularly
be in the 17 man squad on a match day. It is a great reflection on
his dedication with him being very new to the game compared to a lot
of the other boys involved. It also shows the good work that Kent
Ravens are doing that they have produced a player capable of playing
in the Gillette Champions Academy and I am sure he will be the first
of many"
The contract that Gary Sargeant has signed, an RATC, pays appearance
money and a win bonus, and runs until September 2008.
