Ravens go back to School at Leigh City TA

The 2007 may well have ended for the Kent Ravens Rugby League club but the rugby league did not end there as for the first time ever a Kent school benefited from coaching from a local club.

It may not of been the great summer weather that the sport is usual use to as the rain came down, but for Junior Ravens coaches Aiden Oakley and Matt Allen who took the inaugural training session at Leigh City Technology Academy last Thursday, the massive interest from 65 year 7 and 8’s was an eye opening experience.

Oakley commented “We never expected this amount of numbers would be interested in Rugby league, but it is fantastic especially as they all want to come back next week and other years are also interested!”

Only one session under their belt, but Leigh City TA have already been entered into the Carnegie Champ Schools Tournament at South London Storms’ ground in three weeks time, making Leigh the first ever Kent school in the tournament and the hope is they’ll also to be the Kent school to progress onto the next round as Rugby League starts to make inroads into the county.
