Do you know someone who helps others take part in sport within your community or club (maybe: Alex osborne or Aiden oakely - Junior ravens Coaches, Luke Bredin or Victoria Bacon - Ravens' Committee?, Kenny Bell or Edward Easter - Senior Ravens Coaches?) If so, why not nominate them for the BBC’s search for “Sports Unsung Hero of 2007”?
"If you didn't have these people you would not have sport in its current form, it's as simple as that, this is the search for the new Ben"
Lord Sebastian Coe
One of Britain's most successful athletes, Lord Sebastian Coe helped launch the BBC London Sports Unsung Hero Award 2007 which honours individuals from the world of grassroots sport.
The double Olympic Gold medallist met up with the 2004's National Unsung Hero Abdullah Ben Kmayal (Ben) at Burgess Park in Southwark.
Three years ago Ben won the award for his football coaching work with children on an estate in Peckham which grew into Bethwin Football Club that now has 16 teams with over 500 local children participating. Ben was so dedicated to the club he gave up his job and savings to make it a success. His dedication to the club now spans over 16 years.
Lord Coe credits his father as his own Unsung Hero and put's his Dads dedication down to where he is today: "We pretty much started on the same day and both pretty much retired on the same day. He set targets and helped me achieve success. I owe everything to him."
The 1500m Olympic Gold medallist is urging everyone across London to nominate people who have made a difference to their community through sport. Lord Coe added: "If you didn't have these people you would not have sport in its current form, it's as simple as that, this is the search for the new Ben".
