Ravens open Princes Park in spectacular style

Kent Ravens 10 vs. 68 London Skolars

In front of 500 people the Kent Ravens turned on the Style in Dartford under the floodlights on a Friday night. The Junior Ravens kicked off first against a determined Ashford side, as predicted this was a fantastic match between two equally matched sides but the Ravens scraped the win 32 – 20.

To cheers from the crowd the Ravenettes finally appeared for the first time at Princes Park to get the crowd ready for the big match; Kent Ravens versus professional outfit London Skolars. The Ravens came out in a determined mood, as Steve Scanlan had history within the opening minutes, from great work down the middle from loose forward Luke Bredin allowed Scanlan to power over to make history and be the first every try scorer at Princes park stadium. The next 20 minutes were close fought times as Skolars running rugby provided some stunning plays as the Ravens went down 10-4, Daniel Smart then got the Ravens back on the score board and Thomas Claridge added the extra points. Though times got tougher for the Ravens as the Skolars broke through four more times prior to Half time 10-30

The half time entertainment started off with the club giving away a tracksuit and replica shirt in the Raffle, the Vicki Bacon and the Donnelly Family represented the Ravens to Donate £1,000 to the charity CRY who kindly send Phil and Robert Eastty to collect the cheque and the break was finished off with Natalie and her Ravenettes as they drew the already load crowd back from the bars.

Unluckily for the Ravens the second Half continued in the same form as the start of the first as the experience and stamina of a professional opposition took its toll as the Skolars ran in 38 unanswered points, though with the crowd willing them on every second the Ravens never gave up final score 10-68, though to play like they did after being the only club promoted at the end of 2006 is a spectacular achievement for all at the Ravens

With only the U9s at the Quins Festival this Sunday at the Reserves in the London league Plate final on sat 18th August the club are now looking to recruit players, sponsors and coaches for 2008 for all their teams and back room staff if you’re interested in joining the Kent Ravens please get in contact by emailing alan@... calling 07707 852 952 or by seeing our web site at www.kentravens.co.uk and hopefully we’ll see you at Princes park Stadium soon?.
