Ravens walk away with pride in toughest test.

Ipswich Rhinos 44 vs. 26 Kent Ravens

In a weekend that the first team went against the outfit that inflicted the club heaviest defeat, the reserves went against the London League favourites and the junior Ravens took on the run away leaders of the London Junior League, last weekend was one of the toughest tests for the Kent Ravens Club.

In the first half of the Ravens against Ipswich was a close encounter as at half time the Kent side were one score down to the shock of the opposition and things could have been so different if an unfortunate knock on over the try line had resulted in a try early in the match. But tries from debutant Elliot Blackmore, man of match Monish Shome, Daniel Smart and returning injured star Salam Gasmi kept the pressure on the Rhinos while as usual Thomas Claridge came away with an 100 percent kick record getting 5 from 5, however the Rhinos took advantage of a Raven sin binning in the second half to record a 44-26 score line.

While back at home the Junior Ravens came up against a determined West London Sharks and in what the referee described as “the best U12s game he had seen in years” the Ravens went down 10-18 to the champions while a spirited U14s campaign came to an end against a massive Shark squad 24-82.

The reserve squad continued to make progress in the London league against an impressive Hainault club with full back Sam Hearn and prop Nick Thomas making the impact while debutant and try scorer Luke Bredin controlled the match well with scrum Darren Griffin. More tries came from Richard Williams, David Silvestre, Dane Smith, will Rosier and returnee Alex Hatzidakis and the scored added up t 34 – 52 to Hainault.

Next Saturday The Kent Ravens and the reserves travel to London Skolars for an early kick off at the New river stadium in Wood Green.
