Stunning win for Ravens
Kent Ravens 26 vs. 18 Kingston Warriors
Kent’s premier Rugby League club stunned rugby league world with a win over Kingston warriors, moving the Ravens up to sixth in the Conference Premier south. Starting of in style Kent stunned the visitors with two early tries to move into a 10-0 lead from a storming run out of dummy half from debutant James Pope and power play from the forward sent scrum half Sal Gasmi over for the try of the match, but the warriors soon used their experience to go over in the corner, from the kick off the ball was soon back at the other end when a high kick from stand off Mike Muir floated into the arms of winger Thomas Claridge on the final tackle and cut in the corner untouched and go into the Half time break with the Ravens up 16 – 4.
The second half was a tough contest with the two forward packs battling for territory, it was Kingston who started off the stronger with great work from Fraser Stirling and bring the scores closer together with two scores, 16 – 12 after 60 minutes, though Man of match Steve Scanlan relieved the pressure with a break down the middle and a try under the post to give Claridge an easy opportunity to add the extra points. With time running out Kingston scored a controversial try under the Ravens posts and bring the scores within 2 points of each other and give both teams a nervy last 5 minutes, Though head coach Glenn Tyreman made sure his players kept a level head and run through the game plan and it worked a strong work from winger Constantine Hatzidakis set the raven up 5 metres out from the Warriors try line and Prop Paul Hyder wrestled his way over the line and Claridge added the pressure kick to add the extra points and setting the Ravens in with their first win of the League season, 26-18.
On a great day for the Kent Ravens the first’s continued as the Men’s reserves stepped out on the field for their first ever fixture, though the result was not ideal as the visitors Hainaut ran out 52 – 28 winners but returning player John Richardson scored a hat trick of tries from loose forward. Away from Dartford, the Junior Ravens’ under 12s continued their progression towards the play off position with a 38 points to 8 win over London Skolars in Wood Green, North London.
