Emotional scenes greeted Bramley Buffaloes as the West Leeds outfit picked up the second trophy in their illustrious history, three years after their re-formation.
Founder members of the code in 1895, it took until 1973 for the Villagers to lay their hands on their first silverware and the 2006 vintage now joins the select band after a hard fought win over the Stags; avenging last season's two point Grand Final heartbreaker.
Hull Kingston Rovers back in Super League Hull Kingston Rovers claimed a place in Super League for the first time after crushing Widnes in last night's National League One Grand Final at Warrington.
The east Yorkshire team ended a memorable season on a high by securing a return to the big time after a 12-year absence while Widnes were condemned to a second year in the National League.
Rovers' handsome victory confirmed the boom on Humberside, with neighbours Hull FC through to next Saturday's Super League Grand Final against St Helens and no doubt relishing the return of the big derby. Read more Sporting Life

Selectors put necks on Lyon
By Phil Gould
THE selection of Jamie Lyon to represent Australia in the coming Tri-Nations series is a disgrace and the ARL should have stepped in to annul this decision.
I've nothing against Lyon - in fact, I'm a fan of his ability, and he could easily turn out to be the best player in this competition.
But that doesn't justify his shock inclusion. This charade simply delivers another black eye to the selection process for our national team. Read more SMH

BARLA V MANLY Select at Dewsbury on Wednesday
BARLA entertain a Manly Select Side part of the NRL's Manly Sea Eagles at Dewsbury Rams RLFC on Wednesday 11th October, 7.30pm kick off.
It will be the opening game of the Australian sides short tour who arrived here on Sunday and sure to be a fast physical between both sides. BARLA will be hoping to gain a notable victory over the Australian side that they last played at the famous Brookvale Oval in 2004 when they went down 22-10 in the opening game of their tour.
BARLA skipper who held the Skanska Cup aloft on Wednesday following a 40-16 win over The Army is ready for the clash and is hoping for good support at the game, " It will be a belter, I played in the game against Manly in Australia and like all Australian sides they will be tough.
"They will be jet lagged like BARLA were when we played over there so we will need to get them on the back foot and it will be a great game. Hopefully there will be a big crowd on at Dewsbury following our recent success.
"It is a small compact stadium with a good atmosphere and I'm sure that Thornhill Trojans supporters will be there supporting Craig Holmes, Scott Woodcock and I. But I would ask for supporters from clubs all over the country to come and give the lads your support and a BARLA win."
Unbeaten Manager Mick Turner is looking forward to the clash, " I'm am looking forward to playing Manly and the side will give there all against.
"We lost twenty two ten at the Brookvale Oval in 2004 and I thought they conned us a little bit over there. They played us when we still had jet lag and they ended up putting one or two first teamers in plus a few guests and turned us over in the end.
"I felt after that game that we could have beaten them if we had had time to settle in. This time they are in the same situation as us."
BARLA Chair Spen Allison, " I'm expecting a very exciting game, I'm fully aware of what Manly Sea Eagles have got to offer and I think the BARLA side will lift themselves to another level and have enough petrol in the tank to get a famous victory.
"There will be no motivation needed whatsoever because at the end of the day it's the old enemy, Great Britain v Australia. I'm not interested in the politics of the game about who calls themselves what, it's Great Britain v Australia and it will be a superb spectacle and anyone who doesn't attend will be the losers on what could be a great and historic night for the amateur game.
" It will be Manly's first game which be an advantage to us but they will be well prepared. I know Phil Foster of old and I would like to say that Phil Foster is a personal friend and that he will have prepared his squad and will be ready for anything we throw at them. I feel; if we get our act together and we play to our full potential we could come out of this with a result
"I am hoping that anybody and everybody who has an interest in rugby league attends the Ram Stadium and give this talented BARLA team there full support in what will be an exciting and enthralling game"

Jye captains team
SINGLETON junior Jye Bayley has returned from a successful tour of Queensland with the NSW Country under 16 team. Jye had the honour of being selected to captain the team while on tour.
The tour began with a game against a Northern NSW / Gold Coast Titans Development team at Burleigh Heads, which the Country NSW boys won 28 points to 6.
The tour then moved to Kingaroy to prepare for the game against the fancied Queensland Academy Of Sport (QAS) team.
The game was played at nearby Nanango.
Although Jye was injured in the first half, he returned to the field at half time to take part in a memorable victory over the QAS boys.
The score was 20 points to 14.
Jye now takes part in the summer training squad with the Newcastle Knights SG Ball squad before visiting the AIS in Canberra later in October where he has been invited to trial.
If all goes well at the trial, a two year scholarship will be on offer from the AIS.
Jye had to perform consistently well in a number of representative matches to gain selection in the NSW Country team.
First he was picked as part of the Group 21 side that took part in the country championships in Coffs Harbour at the end of last month.
After starring in that tournament, he was picked to play for North NSW Country and went into camp on July 8, and then took on South Country on July 10.
After another strong performance, he was selected in the NSW Country side as hooker.
Jye's aim is to play in the NRL and after selection in the country team and making the Newcastle Knights train on side, it is a goal that is not out of reach.

The Need for Innovators & Creativity in Rugby League
Written by Robert Rachow
With Dennis Ward & Don Oxenham
Sports coaching and freedom of thought can often appear as two mutually exclusive entities. After all, isn't coaching all about a sequential chain of popular teachings? A mentor passes on instructions to a variety of coaches, who then impart that same information on senior athletes, who in turn pass it onto the less experienced athletes.
Continued from last week..
Such is the changing face of League in regards to onfield rules and off-field business, that the hierarchy are frequently caught clinging to outdated ideologies.
This occurs at all Levels of the game.
For the benefit of League's progression, it is encouraged that all people involved approach decisions with a clean slate as opposed to bias or popular opinion. Understandably the hardest difficulty is not so much listening to new ideas, but removing the old ones.
After 40- 50 years, perception can be so deeply ingrained that it shackles you from seeing the benefits that others might so clearly see.
Quite often there is also a deep fear of failure or perhaps even a fear of courage.
This last statement may sound particularly puzzling, for indeed 'fear of courage' is a contradictory term, at least in the literary sense.
What it purports to is a characteristic well inbred in Australian culture - the reluctance to look like a lair, a smart ass, a show pony.
Few terms in the Aussie lexicon are more derogatory, for from a young age it is melded into children's psyche that upstaging others and doing things differently is anything but a badge of honour.
BREEDING CONFIDENCE IN RUGBY LEAGUE PLAYERS
It is argued there are six components that can be used to breed confidence - success, experience, responsibility, recognition, autonomy and status. All of these traits have avenues of implementation in Rugby League.
With success and experience, it is a matter of achieving a delicate balance to nurture the growth of the individual. A player must feel they are competent enough at a particular level before attempting to conquer the next one. This is applicable to fitness regimes, skill drills or even moving from one grade up to the next.
At the same time though, holding players back for too long can stunt their development and give them an obscured view of what expectations have been placed upon them. Essentially the aim is to create an environment that provides a fairly constant level of success with ongoing developmental experience.
Responsibility comes in many forms. It may be as obvious as making somebody captain or it could mean emphasising the importance of a certain position to the team.
For example, the coach could stress how integral the winger's kick return is to setting up the next attacking possession. Obviously this wouldn't be enforced to the point of being a burden, but just enough to give the player a sense of importance within the team.
Recognition also lends itself to various modes of use. Quite often a heartfelt acknowledgment in front of teammates or parents can mean as much to a player as receiving a trophy at the end-of-year presentations.
Factors such as timing, sincerity and personality of the player should all be taken into consideration to give the greatest impact.
One subtle way of encouraging confidence and, in turn, innovative play, is to have an unspoken rule of autonomy.
This could apply to the whole team or just to certain individuals within the side. If there is a talented player who makes those around him/her better, than a mutual understanding of free reign can benefit the whole team.
However stating this aloud could cause a number of problems. It may make teammates either resentful or overawed and it may also trigger the player to try things which aren't within their usual character.
To be continued....
