Heat is on the Ravens

The temperatures may well have been over 30 degrees but the Kent Ravens used the rest week from the league to rest certain players and let the new players take the field such players as Michael Rogers, Todd Cutting, Chairman Alan bacon, Ben Wadsworth and many more in a friendly match against a Coventry bears sides side made up of many with national league experience. From the start this experienced shone throw as the bears took the lead and it took the Ravens old guard to make the big impression on Coventry with a high work load coming from Scrum Half Thomas Rogers and Prop Monish Shome. But the first try for the Ravens actually came from the previously known forward Richard Williams, trying his hand at centre, as great work from Wadsworth and cutting squeezed Williams through for his to wrestle the ball over the try line. While in total contrast and excellent piece of individual skill from Richard Paddick produced the other other try for the Ravens after Mark Martin playing his first match at full back set the ball up perfectly for paddick and then Williams added the extra points, final score 48 – 10 to the Bears.

At the same venue, the Ravens women lined up for their crucial league match against Coventry. However the match was marred by poor decisions and a lack of control, however the ravens looked in control early on as firstly Paula Cooper breezed through the bears defence and then a great team play coming from Anna Plews and 2005 captain Katie Lyne sent over captain Rebecca Balance for her second try of the season and cooper added both chances of extra points as the Ravens went in at the break 12-6 up. But it was the second half when the problems began when a scuffle on the field lead to a Ravens player being red carded while the Bears player was only told to be replaced, the Ravens battled hard for the remainder of the match with Heather shaw crossing the line for another try but the final score was Coventry Bears 26 Kent Ravens 16.

The day continued in this form for the Raves club as the ever improving Under 11s travelled to Addington to take on the new outfit of Addington Lightning, but it was the Lightning who ran out eventual winners with a score line of 42 – 28, Leading scorer Andrew Tulloch-Foley got all of the Ravens seven tries but it was Patrick McQuilkin and Jamie Wathen that shined for the kent side as they never stopped working hard and making the spaces.
