Youths stay undefeated as they fly the Ravens flag

With St. Albans a pulling out of the conference and the Army being called away on operations it was left to the Kent Ravens under 13s to fly the flag for the club as both the men and women’s games were forced to be cried off.

The so far undefeated Under 13s did not disappoint as they continued to play reflowing rugby against a very skilful Brentwood Elvers side and score some fantastic tries especially in the first half of this match, where great work from debutant Charles Whittaker kept the Elvers defence guessing and set up a base for powerful forwards Conor burden and Sam Gorman to drive up the centre of field time after time. The first half ended with a 16 points to 4 lead for the Ravens with tries from Sam Cannon, Ben Abbott and Harry Rogers while Tom Jewers added two of the conversions.

Brentwood came out on the attack in the second and forced the Ravens to play a less elaborate form of rugby with the Jack Sankey, evasive runner James Jewers and especially captain Jack Candlin having to work extra hard in covering defence to produce tries from pressure, these came from Stephen Pillow, a second from Rogers and Abbot also grabbed a brace of tries so it was left to Tom Jewers to add another two conversions to 32-16 by the end of play.

Next weekend will see the Kent Ravens men and women’s teams both travel away to take on the Coventry Bears in a friendly and a crucial league match respectively, while the mini’s section of the Junior Ravens will be travelling over to south London to take on the Addington Lightning.
