Dartford council press release:-
Darts' Stadium could offer Rugby League excitement during summer
Dartford Football Club's new stadium at Princes Park could be offering sporting excitement all-year-round year if discussions with a growing rugby league team are successful.
The Kent Ravens, who currently play in Eltham, have approached the Council with a request to play at Princes Park during the football closed-season from Summer 2007. The arrangement would ensure that the stadium is busy right through the year.
Cllr Jeremy Kite, Leader of Dartford Borough Council, says discussions are still at an early stage but the opportunity of a summer sport at Princes Park would be hugely beneficial for the football club and the whole of Dartford.
"Dartford Football Club's new ground is simply superb and deserves to be in use during the four summer months when football is out of season. The Kent Ravens could be an ideal solution and ensure the stadium offers family sport all through the year. Naturally, the interests of the football club come first but the pitch suppliers have told us that the ground is more than capable of handling the use."
Alan Bacon, Chairman of Kent Ravens, says of the potential benefits:
"Princes Park is a hugely exciting project and we're pleased to be having these with discussions with Jeremy and his colleagues. This is something we hope will propel us into the national leagues within a few years whilst at the same time bringing the sport to the town.
We're very much a family friendly, community-based, club, with teams at all age groups and the only women's team in south east London and Kent."
