Quite a few of us are, yes :)

But if anyone wants to put in a loop before the work starts, I'll likely be
rolling into Shelter #11 @ 5:30a. Bring a headlamp!

Cheers & God Bless,
Brad

I hope to sneak out pre turkey day dinner and get a loop in at Wyco on Thurs.  Probably start about 8:00 (unless stopped by relatives).

Hi Folks,

I live in Omaha, NE and willl be heading down with the family over Thanksgiving.  We are going to stay at my wife's sister's house in OlatUH.  I would love to run out at WyCo or Clinton Lake (or anywhere 'fun').  I was thinking early morning type runs on Thurs/Fri/Sat. We will be getting in town Wed. afternoon and leaving probably Sat, so the 'Dude' is unfourtunately out.

Are there any group runs or someone who would be willing to hit the trails with me?  I am thinking of doing RR100 (first 100) and would like to get in some good training over the holiday.

Thanks,
Dan

There will be folks (me at least) running the Sat after turkey day at Wyco.  7:15 start time.

If you feel like running Wed night head over to Shawnee Mission Park at 6:30.

Check out: http://www.psychowyco.com/id43.html for maps and whatnot.

Hey Andy,

Here's the basics:
-During the race, I had a dull ache in the lower part of my shin/high ankle that
turned into sharp, gasp-causing pains. Especially bad on downhills, with the
way my foot would flex, hurt on flat, mediocre on uphills.
-Immediately post-race, I had trouble moving anything below my left knee at all
without pain. Foot/ankle swelling, red inflamed streak over the major tendon on
the front of my ankle, a few other details that I'm having trouble
remembering/describing well now
-In the three days that followed, it stopped being continually sore but would
hurt whenever I moved my foot - up, down or side to side. Sharp only if I moved
my foot quickly at an angle. Inflammation went away after 60hrs.
-Tuesday, I was running, and the combination of pavement & hills got it tweaking
again. Not so much the tendon, but a bit higher up, more on the lower part of
the leg where soccer/football shinguards would be covering. Was a bit
nerve-wracking, because it did cause some pain memory of that also hurting
during the OT100, and definitely wasn't the tendon. Ran this morning, though,
and it was fine (rocky, moderately hilly trails).

Thanks! & God Bless,
Brad

fracture before the Brew to Brew race last year but it ended up being muscular.
I think a small muscle in my calf was extremely fatigued, and I'd imagine your
muscles were under a bit of stress after that 100 miler. If you wouldn't mind,
could you give a small description of your symptoms? Thanks, and best of luck

Well, a lot of us act like we're 18, so I guess that fits, right? :)

Or, we act like we're 6 - jumping in mud puddles and intentionally taking the muddy route.

Well, a lot of us act like we're 18, so I guess that fits, right? :)

Or, we act like we're 6 - jumping in mud puddles and intentionally taking the muddy route.

Hey,

Great to see some other younger folks around here! I'm usually the babe in the
bunch at the ripe old age of 24, and am always looking for some more young blood
to help show the more *cough* experienced folks how it's done. :)
Look forward to seeing you on the trails. I take it you're currently primarily
a road runner? What kind of distances are you used to? Drop me an email some
time, and I'd be glad to get together with you for some trail rockin'.

Cheers & God Bless,
Brad

P.S. Also, what's your name?

Hey Brad,

It might help to put your symptoms on a message so people could read a little
bit about the pain you're feeling.. Personally, I thought I had a stress
fracture before the Brew to Brew race last year but it ended up being muscular.
I think a small muscle in my calf was extremely fatigued, and I'd imagine your
muscles were under a bit of stress after that 100 miler. If you wouldn't mind,
could you give a small description of your symptoms? Thanks, and best of luck
with the healing process.

If it were me, I would wait and see first. That being said...when it WAS me many years ago, I went and got an x-ray. I only did it because I had a small raised area on the bone and I was worried about a pathological fracture (one caused by a tumor weakening the bone). Med school turns you into a total nut job sometimes. Turns out it was more from pounding a small frame onto 5 miles of pavement every single day for many months - I know, weird. And my stress fracture was not obvious on the first x-ray but could be sufficiently hallucinated when compared to one several weeks later. Either way, I didn't run for 6 weeks until it healed.

Something to consider....there is very little to see on a plain film x-ray of a leg. If you are looking for a stress fracture, it has to be pretty significant to show up on a plain film. Sometimes it takes a repeat x-ray several weeks later to compare before you can even see it on the first one. The money shot for stress fractures is a bone scan and if you think an x-ray is expensive...!!!!! Not to mention, it doesn't really change management - rest it until it doesn't hurt ;) Anyway, just my two cents and off-the-record opinion - do with it what you want.

I just mailed off the form for the 33k. It will be my longest race so far, so I'm looking forward to it. I've done 2 - 25k races this fall, a couple of half mara's and several 3-4 hour runs so I think 33k isn't too much of a stretch. I signed up for legs 1, 2 and 6. If you haven't signed up, just be aware that you have to mail the form, there isn't an on-line sign up that I saw. It just add's to the mystery.
