Congratulations to everyone that tested and received their promotions
this last weekend. Everyone looked great at the test.
I will be out of town this weekend training with my Kojosho teacher,
but will be back the first of next week for classes. Shihan Hack will
be running classes on Saturday morning at the main school. Don't
forget to tell your friends about our new Tai Chi instructor here
from China.
We now have tickets to the Black Belt Graduation that is going to be
held at the Air Force Academy in October – if you are wanting tickets
please talk to your Sensei.
Lesson Of The Week-
Before a warrior begins his training, he must understand conflict and
fighting. Some would prefer to avoid studying the martial arts all
together and concentrate on peaceful arts. The warrior understands
that conflict and harmony are two ends of the same stick. To
understand one, you must understand the other. Therefor, in order to
live in peace, you must learn the psychology of conflict, and the
strategies that lead to victory and defeat. As the old saying goes, "
You may not be interested in fighting, but fighting is interested in
you." Martial arts knowledge is a double-edged sword. It can be used
for helping mankind or causing to society. While a beginner may walk
into a room and think of how he has the ability to defeat others, the
true warrior sees that the room is a lot safer with him there.
Fighting does not come from martial arts knowledge but a lack of it.
Knowledge is power, and safety is in the training.
As we continue on the topic of goal setting and making action plans,
it is imperative that we understand the law of cause and effect. For
every action there is a reaction. For example, "Hikete" (the
retreating hand pulling back) in karate punching. The power of the
punch is directly related to the power of the retreating hand.
This simple concept is very powerful when trying to understand the
human mind. All actions have consequences. We are in charge of our
actions and so therefor we are in charge our future based on our
knowledge of consequences. In human behavior, thoughts are actions;
behaviors are reactions. If you are not happy with your current
behaviors or actions, then change the thought process. If you want to
have good things in the future, begin programming your mind with good
things today.
Brian Tracy's quote of the week,
"Life is hard; it always has been and it always will be. Accepting
this reality somehow makes it easier."
