Students, Teachers and Parents,
Hope this karate-gram finds everyone healthy and in good spirits. We
have a couple of quick announcements:
Remember karate camp is this upcoming week. Camp runs from 9 am till
4
pm and the camp will cover a variety of subjects including jujitsu,
weapons, self defense, musical kata and lots of fun. Cost for the
camp
is $99 and each camper is to bring their own sack lunch. If you
haven't registered yet but want to attend, just show up Monday at
9.
The In-house karate tournament is going to be held this coming
Saturday starting at noon. This is a great experience for beginners
and novice competitors. Cost is $20 for all events which include
kata,
self defense, sparring, weapons and team events. Registration forms
are at the front desk.

This weeks concept is "shin". Shin translates as spirit or attitude.
You may hear in class us talk about Mu-Shin. Mu means void, thus mu
shin would literally be void of spirit. In reality it is used to
depict a warrior that is able to stay in control of his emotions in
the heat of battle, remaining calm and deliberate. A true warrior
remains calm because he/she is confident in their abilities and
realizes staying calm increases their ability to defeat any opponent.
A strong spirit is cultivated through karate-do and then harnessed
though the mind.
