Aloha Everyone!

It is so good to hear that Sifu Al is back home and doing well. The news of his
injury came streaming in through all the martial arts e-groups I belong to, as
well as many e-mails from friends and fellow Martial Artists. It shows how many
people just in my social circles alone have met and been touched by Sifu Al in
their lives!

In my last e-mail I sent some incorrect info on two things. The first is that I
said I have been friends with Sifu Al since 1994, which is partially true. I
actually have known him much longer, since 1989 or so. However, it was in 1994
that I actually signed up and trained under him for just under one year. I
learned a lot from him and the other instructors at the old school off of Canyon
Boulevard (by the Lexus dealership) in Beaverton. That school is no longer at
that location. I loved the Kajukenbo Octagon on the floor! In fact, I have not
been in that area in years, so maybe the Lexus dealer is gone as well now? Funny
how things are always changing!

Also, I am not sure if it was actually Baseline Avenue in Hillsboro where Sifu
Ben's old school was located, it may have been TV Highway. It was close to a
Burgerville and some other restaurants, just down the street from that park with
the totem pole in it. There was a KFC just across the street. It was great to
stop by and chat with Sifu Ben on the way to teach my class at the NW Fitness
Complex just up the road (in the old Waremart Foods mall at the end of TV
Highway).

Was Sifu Joe Clarke a student who helped teach at the Canyon Avenue school?
There was a guy named Joe who was a Brown Belt at the time I was training, and
he and Sifu Eddie Willis taught many of the classes during that time. I cannot
remember Joe's last name, but either way it is alwasy sad news when someone we
love (especially a teacher) passes away. I just lost one of my teachers on April
1st of this year. It hit me very hard and is still knid of surreal in my mind.

It is great hearing from you all. I am so glad to hear the Sifu Al is back home
and doing well. If anyone who is close to him reads this, please tell him I said
hello and give him my best. Truly a great man, indeed!
