Hello Everyone!
I am brand new to this group. I cannot believe I just now found the
link on Kajukenbo.org website. Currently I have been teaching martial
arts since 1993. After four years of Tae Kwon Do, I joined Kajukenbo
when I was 13 years old back in 1987 with Si-Gung Sid Lopez, founder
of the North Wind Kung-Fu Club. Sifu Lopez and his students were well
known tournament competitors and street-tough fighters in the Pacific
Northwest area. Sifu Sid produced many well known Black Belts who are
still active today.
However, in 1994 I decided to take some time off from Kajukenbo and
study other systems of martial arts. I (among others) also had
decided to part ways with Sifu Lopez and the NWKFC. Finally after 7
years away from Kajukenbo, I came back full circle in my training and
now I am under Si-Gung Tim Gagnier since 2001.
I operate the American Kajukenbo Self-Defense school in Eugene,
Oregon. Since coming to Eugene in 1999, we have been at several
different locations over the years. For a little over one year I had
my own location, but this was prior to my return to Kajukenbo, and so
I was offering a different program back then. We have moved from
there to Iron Works Gym, Martial Arts America and Pierce Family Kung-
Fu. Currently I am offering classes at my home and the home of one of
my blue belt students who has been with me for about 3 years.
I have one branch school (Adaptive Kajukenbo Self-Defense) in San
Jose, California. That school is run by Sibak Erik Pangelinan, who
came to me in 2004 from a bay area Kenpo school when he moved to
Eugene. Sibak Erik is probably the best student I have had so far,
and is very loyal and dedicated to his training. He offers his own
expression of Kajukenbo, which is a blend of all the good stuff from
his previous training along with the Kajukenbo he has learned from
me. He continues to train and grow constantly, as we all know the
best practitioners are eternal students. Look for him on this group,
since I am going to mention to him that he should join!
I look forward to interacting with all of you and learning and
sharing with each other in the spirit of Kajukenbo Ohana!
Sincerely,
~Sifu Stephen Miller
