Hi,
Just wondering if anyone lives in Surrey near Farnham (or in NE Hampshire) and
would like to come and show off your skills and coach some 6-7 yr olds on a
Monday evening at 5.30pm for just an hour sometime in the summer term? We are
always looking for cool outdoor activities and I know they would love ultimate.
Will gladly pay travel expenses, guaranteed fun time!

Selection for GB U17s Open and GB U17 Girls will take place on Saturday May
16th in Birmingham. More details about the day will be sent out by Vaughnie
nearer the time including consent forms which must be filled out and
returned by the day. The cost will be £3 each. This will be the only
selection day so it is vital that those wanting to try out for GB U17s to be
there. Any girls that cannot make that date are welcome to attend GB Junior
Women practices in Loughborough before that date.

The U17s Open trials will have to be restricted to around 30 players who
have a serious chance of being selected. The standard has improved
dramatically this year so no one from last year's team should assume that
they have automatic entitlement to playing this year. If you feel you are
good enough to attend trials, then please subscribe to
gb_u17s-subscribe@yahoogroups.com sending a brief description of why you
feel you should attend.

For U17 Girls, there is no such restriction and we want as many as possible
to attend.

Anyone born 1993 or later is eligible to play for U17s, and this year's
European tournament takes place from August 4th-9th in Vienna (flying out on
the 4th, game start on the 5th, conclude on the 8th and fly back on the
9th). The cost of the tournament is expected to be in the region of £300 to
£350.

Manchester has won the bid to host this year's Junior Outdoor Nationals. It
will be held over the weekend of June 27/28. A copy of the successful bid is
enclosed below. I'm sure Dale or Jacko will be sending out more details
shortly. Many thanks to everyone else that submitted a bid, and good luck to
Manchester in running this tournament. Hopefully the weather will be a
little kinder to us this year. Last year saw 28 teams compete, so hopefully
we will have even more teams this year. There will be a restriction on the
number of games each team can play following the overly gruelling schedule
last year, but it would help if teams brought a more sensible squad size of
10+ players rather than the minimum 9 that our rules allow.

Kevin (on behalf of the Junior Bids Forum)

---

The venue is the Parrs Wood Sports College in Didsbury, Manchester
(http://www.parrswood.Manchester.sch.uk/). The venue is also being used for
Mixed Tour 2 and The Rylands (originally MLU:UK), and has been given
approval from the UKU Competitions Committee.

Local transport links include East Didsbury rail station (0.2 miles, regular
services from Manchester Piccadilly heading towards Manchester Airport), a
large bus depot outside the Parrs Wood Entertainment Complex (buses serve
the city centre every few minutes, Oxford Road being the busiest bus route
in Europe) and is close to the M60 ringroad. Manchester is obviously a very
central venue also, and is very easy to access by car, train or plane. There
is a large Tesco about a 5 minute walk from the venue.

The venue can accommodate for camping both Friday and Saturday night, but
the venue insists upon placing extra security on the campsite (which
obviously is a benefit for the players). The campsite is a 5 minute walk
from the venue and is another part of the school aside from the playing
fields. There are a variety of Travelodges and B&B's near the venue as well.
There will be no tournament arranged party because it's on School grounds,
but the Parrs Wood venue offers bowling, a cinema, and restaurants, and
Manchester city centre is not too far by public transport.

We can hire St Johns ambulance for the event as well.

We have provisionally inquired for 4-6 pitches, but can go higher if the
numbers allow for it. The manager gives us cheaper rates the more pitches we
hire, so we are happy to hire even more which inevitably makes the
tournament cheaper. Pitch marking and use of the changing rooms come as part
of the pitch hire fee.

We are also going to enquire into a Lookfly minishop at the venue. Standard
prizes for winners/finalist/third/spirit/plate/spoon, plus hopefully an MVP
prize from Lookfly?

Depending on the number of teams that enter, and the number of pitches
hired, we can offer entry fee for provisionally £100, but the more
teams/more pitches = less team fee/more stuff put into tournament.

All,

If you are over 18 - you will also need to complete the GB consent form and bring it with you on the day (open and womens players).

You can sign the consent yourselves but we still need to have your details.

Thanks

juniorultimate/BD,

I've currently received 28 player applications for this year. The deadline is today.

I'll be sending out a consent form and final details for trials next weekend. If you don't bring a consent form if you're under 18, you cannot play. We will be charging for venue hire as well - if you do not pay you do not play.

All,

Final details about the first training / trials session for GBJW is
available from the UKUA website:

http://www.ukultimate.com/national_teams/gb_junior_women/u20/2009_trials

Details of both sessions [Birmingham and Manchester] can be found following
the link. Birmingham trials are on Sunday 29th March, Manchester trials are
now on Saturday 28th, in line with the open U20 training, also in
Manchester.

Could any teachers / coaches please pass on relevant info to girls born in
or after 1990. Most importantly, there are two consent forms on the UKUA
website, both of which need to be completed for every player. If any girl
comes to training without consent forms, they will not be able to join in
the session.

All girls are welcome, no matter how experienced, but these sessions will be
trials only for U20 girls [just a training session for U17s].

Any other info can be found on the website, or by emailing me.

*For all girls born in or after 1990;

Trial 1 for GBJW U20s will be on Sunday 29th March, which is fast
approaching.

There will be 2 sessions, on at the same time, and you're free to go to
whichever is most convenient;

Option 1 - Manchester*
Venue: *Fog Lane Park, Manchester*
Times: *9:30 - 3pm
*
 Location:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=112154279187055752202.000464c0dce63c239608c&ll=53.422877,-2.223766&spn=0.003446,0.011373&t=h&z=17

*Option 2 - Birmingham
*Venue: *To be confirmed
*Times: 9:30-3pm

At both venues, 9:30 is the meeting time; boots on and ready to play by
10am.

Please bring food, water, light and dark playing shirts, bin bag in case of
rain, football boots, wet and warm gear to play in + change of clothes for
afterwards. There will be a charge of £5 for anyone coming to either
session, to cover costs of pitch hire.

*If you are U17 and want to come along for the extra training, then you're
also very welcome*. There'll be drills and game play which you'll definitely
be able to join in with, and it'll be lots of fun.

Other dates for your diaries- these are the provisional dates for the rest
of our trials [again, for U20s] and training sessions for the rest of the
season. We have not booked venues yet but are looking for somewhere central,
hopefully Loughborourgh. I'd recommend you dont book any train tickets yet,
but at least pencil these dates into your diaries and keep them free:

May: w/k 2nd & 3rd
May: w/k 30th & 31st
June: w/k 13th & 14th (TBC - Depending on Junior Nationals)
June: w/k 28th & 29th (TBC - Depending on Junior Nationals)
July: w/k 25th & 26th

I think that's everything for now. If you could let me know if you can/cant
make the session, and ideally which you'll be going to, that would be
brilliant. [email linzibo@...]

Also, if you have any other questions, then please feel free to get in
touch.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Linz & Gemma

PS- for anyone interested, the Manchester session will be run alongside the
boys U20 trials. Dale will be sending out the relevant info..

All,

thank you for everyone that's got in touch with their initial expression of interest. So far, 40 people have applied personally and I'm sure many more will turn up in their truckload for the actual session.

Please find attached to this e-mail the final player application form for 2009. If you want to be considered for GB Junior Open this summer, the deadline for receipt of this application is Friday 20th March. The address for you to send it to is at the end of the application. If you are having trouble downloading the pack, the file will be available on the UK Ultimate site, or please e-mail me and I will forward it on to you.

The first trial for this year will be on the 28th March in Fog Lane Park, Manchester. The following link contains the details for the training on Google maps:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=112154279187055752202.000464c0dce63c239608c&ll=53.422877,-2.223766&spn=0.003446,0.011373&t=h&z=17

Training will start at midday and run until 5 at the latest. Please arrange appropriate transport to accomodate these times. Manchester Piccadilly station serves most major lines in the UK, and Fog Lane park is easily accessible by road. If you want to throw before the session, then make sure you arrive early as training will start at midday sharp.

To clarify, these are not the trials for the U17s. The details for this will be announced in due time I'm sure.

Any questions, please get in touch

OK, now it looks like this:

Entered and paid up:

6 Badgers teams
5 Arctic teams
Jake Sykes' Apes/Calday mix team
1 Stags team
1 Rhinos team
1 team from Latymer - though they may not have a full team and may need to pick
up. They will know by Friday, and and anyone who might be interested in picking
up 2-5 players let me know

(None of these teams have requested accomodation)

Expressed an interest, but no money:

3 Manor teams
2 Flux teams
2 Evolution teams
1 team from Gemma's old school
3 (?) Ocelots teams

(Manor are the only team to have requested accomodation for a total of 28)

No further word from :

That other York team (Tom?) or anyone else. DEADLINE IS THIS FRIDAY.

I have been speaking to Si at the UKU, and we need to sort out insurance a bit
better for this event. When you have confirmed your teams, please can you send
me a list of names of people who will be competing for your club, and they can
be considered covered on the UKU insurance. I guess a document with the
coach/teacher's name, some contact details, and names of those playing will
suffice.

Hi All

Yesterday was the deadline for expressing an interest in entering the Under 17
Indoors, cheques to confirm the place due next Friday.

Full marks to Stags who have not only said they're coming but got the cheque in
already ( do you require accomodation or are you sorting your own out?)

Other teams who've emailed to confirm:

Manor - 3 teams, accomodation on both nights for 28 people
Badgers - 6 teams, no accomodation
Evolution - 2 teams, no accomodation
Arctic - 4 or 5 teams
Ocelots - some teams
Flux - a team
Crazy Apes - possibly with Calday pick ups

There has also been talk from:

Another York team?
Latymer?
Gemma's old school's team?

And any more?

Could you please send me an email ASAP confirming your intentions, and if you
know of anyone else prompt them to get in touch ASAP. Cheques by next Friday
please. I don't have half term and Ofsted to contend with this time, so hope to
have it sorted a little sooner: Trophies ordered extra early, 1 scoreboard
obtained (Kev, could you bring 2 others). So I'd like the money in by Friday and
to have it wrapped up then.

Cheers

Dear All

The Under 17 Indoor Championships 2009 will be held at Aldersley Leisure
Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW) on the weekend of 21st and 22nd March. UKUA
Indoor Regionals were held at Aldersely in November 2008, and last weekend saw
Junior Indoors 2009 take place there, and any teams that went to either (or
both!) will vouch that it is a great venue. As the Under 17 game continues to
grow I have 2 halls for all of Saturday and a 3rd hall from 3-6pm, and I have 3
halls for all of Sunday. The halls are a really good size, and there is balcony
space and a cafe/bar onsite, as well as supermarkets nearby. I am hoping that
Lookfly will be joining us on one of the days, so discs and other merchandise
should be available.

To be eligible to play you must be in Year 11 or below, born on or after 1st
September 1992 (the rules for UK Domestic competition differ slightly to
International competition, to be eligible to play for GB Under 17s this summer
you need to be born on or after 1st January 1993. Please contact me if there are
any queries). If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for
a full team, then it should be possible to arrange for you to join up with
another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you
must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: kev@... is
sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to
join with. At Junior Outdoors 2008 there were cases of players picking up for
teams which were neither approved, nor the most appropriate. Please go through
the correct systems.

I am hoping that the central location will mean that the majority of teams might
be able to travel home rather than needing accomodation on the Saturday night,
but I recognise that for some of you that won't be possible. Obviously you are
free to organise your own plans, and places like www.travelodge.co.uk often have
good deals (e.g. family rooms which could sleep 4 from £19 per night), and there
are a smattering of Youth Hostels in Staffordshire www.yha.org.uk However I also
have an arrangement with a village hall in Codshall a few miles away
(Wolverhampton Rd, WV8 1PW) where people are able to stay on both Friday and/or
Saturday night as required. Keys are available from the caretaker on arrival,
and each team will be required to have at least one responsible adult to
supervise them and look after the key. It goes without saying that participants
and coaches would be expected to treat the venue and other users with
consideration and respect.
This accomodation would be included in the entry fee. No food would be provided
though.

The tournament is going to cost £70 per team. If you want to come can you do the
following things, ASAP:
1. Email me with your teamname, contact details, and how many teams you hope to
bring. Let me know if you might be interested in accomodation at this stage, how
many people, and whether for one or both nights. Do all this by Friday 6th
March.
2. Confirm your booking by sending a cheque for the appropriate amount made
payable to 'Andrew Vaughan' to me at 12 Court Farm Road, Birmingham, B23 5ND.
Remember to write your team name, and contact name and number on the back. Do
this by Friday 13th.

I know it is a short turnaround, but the preliminary details have already been
posted on the Junior list weeks ago so you should know about it, and started
planning whether you are coming and how many teams you intend to bring.

I, and the Junior Forum, will take a dim view of teams that enter and then
pull out at the last minute without warning; obviously things might change or be
tricky, but the important thing is that you as a team communicate with me as TD,
and any other relevant parties. At both Junior Indoors and Junior Outdoors 2008,
this was a problem. For Junior Indoors this year those teams in
that unfortunate predicament had the decency to contact me and let me know, so
alterations could be made (thanks guys)

Any problems do not hesiate to contact me on this email or 07791 368786 (usually
turned off during the school day)

Cheers
Vaughnie

Dear UK Ultimate,

The UKU has taken steps this year to ensure that the future of the game is
bright! We set targets to be a world leader in the sport and to do so we
need a strong grass roots element to our game. To ensure this the UK needs a
strong junior programme for domestic and international growth.

One of the steps we are taking is to have a strong Junior Committee to lead
the development of a world leading youth programme.

The new committee needs volunteers who wish to help make changes and make
this dream a reality. There are a few roles that need filling on the
committee. We need people to fill the following roles:
Communication & Enquiries Officer,
Junior Director of Competitions,
Junior Committee Treasurer,
Publicity (PR)
Fundraiser.

Coupled with this each role will be developing "sub groups" to help with
their task, and we need people to apply for those too!

If any of these roles look appealing to you or you are interested in helping
in another way then please read the job descriptions and submit an email of
interest including a brief about why you believe you could make a difference
in that role and who you are.

Role descriptions and more details about the new committee can be found at

We are now looking for bids to host the 2009 National Junior Outdoor
Championships. Having considered moving to regional qualifiers, we suspect
we are still some way short of having to make that change this year.

There will need to be at least 5 outdoor pitches, ideally more as we would
hope to get at least 28 junior teams (as in 2008). It needs to be a 2 day
tournament, so camping is important. A central location is preferable, but
most teams will travel to almost anywhere in the country for a 2 day junior
tournament.

For guidance on running a tournament, please refer to the UKUA policy
http://www.ukultimate.com/files/How_to_run_a_UKUA_tour_5.pdf
Don't feel you have to provide everything, but the closer we get to these
high standards, the better.

We're preferably looking for a bid that can at least accommodate:
- 4-6 pitches for two days
- Medical staff
- Cheap, safe accommodation / Camping on site
- Affordable entry fee

Any extras such as venue for party, bouncy castles, swimming, etc. must be
fully risk assessed. Remember that the majority of participants will be
under 18, and teachers/coaches/responsible adults (who may themselves only
be 18) are putting their careers and reputations on the line when taking a
junior team to a tournament.

Weekend clashes are inevitable, but some are preferable to others. For
reference, here is a list of events already scheduled. Hosting the
tournament during the exam period or outside of term time (including
weekends at the start or end of term or even half term) will drastically
reduce the amount of teams that can enter.

Apr 25 - Tour 0
May 2 - Uni Mixed Outdoor Nationals
May 9 - Mixed Tour 2
May 23 - Mixed Tour 3 / Nationals
Jun 6 - Tour 1
Jul 4 - Tour 2 (A and womens)
Jul 11 - Tour 2 (B and C divisions)

June 27/28 looks like the best weekend as June 21/22 is before the end of
some GCSE/A Level exams, but there are other possibilities. Flexibility with
the date for a venue is going to be very important in the bids. GCSEs tend
to be over by June 22nd but watch out for year 11 proms after that date. GB
Junior squad training dates are being sorted out this week so we need to get
nationals on the calendar as quickly as possible.

If you would like to submit a bid, then please send an 'email of interest'
with a brief outline ASAP to me at kev_lowe@..., and then a full bid
by March 23rd. All bids (including emails of interest) will be published
when received on the public area at
http://www.freeyabb.com/phpbb/index.php?mforum=juniors

The bids will then be considered that week and decisions announced by March
30th. Deadlines will be enforced properly this year, and compromise bids
will not be sought if correctly submitted bids fully meet the bid criteria.
The two most important factors when deciding which junior indoor bid to
accept were the dates and location.

Good luck, and let's ensure that these national tournaments continue to be
annual events as they have been since 2004.

Kevin (on behalf of the junior bids committee)

Cheers

Vaughnie

Cheers
Vaughnie

Hi All

Thanks for a great weekend. As I said at the end, the quality of play was the
highest I've ever seen at Junior level with all the play off games being very
close, there were more teams than ever before, and the Spirit in which games was
played was great. Congratulations to AirBadgers 1 who played a very assured game
in the final - and to think that all bar one of that team are eligible play for
at least another 2 years - they're going to take some stopping! Again my thanks
to Kev and Jaz for all they did to help out. A quick summary of results:

Champions - AirBadgers 1
Runners Up - Arctic 1
3 NC Hammer
4 Ocelots 1
5 Flux 1
6 Arctic 2
7 Rhinos 1
8 Candy

9 Jesus Loves Spartans
10 Arctic 3
11 Strangers
12 Catch Those
13 Calday 13
14 6FFU
15 Evolution 1
16 Ocelots 2

17 Calday 11
18 Flux 2
19 Calday 12
20 Evolution 2
21 AirBadgers 2
22 AirBadgers 3
23 Arctic 4
24 Ocelots 3

25 Rhinos 2
26 Arctic 5
27 Arctic 6
28 OAPSs

MVPs of the Final - Borat and Ed from AirBadgers (thanks to Lookfly for
Sponsoring that prize)

Spirit of the Game - Strangers (again, thanks Lookfly)

SOTG was scored with the simple method of each team nominating 1, 2 and 3 points
to the three most spirited teams they played, so a small tally does not
necessarily mean a team is poorly spirited. The full SOTG scores are:

13 points - Strangers (Winners), Arctic 4 (even on first round of votes, casting
vote given to OAPs)
12 points - Candy
10 points - Flux 2
9 points - Evolution 1
8 points - Catch Those, Evolution 2, Arctic 5
7 points - AirBadgers 1, NC Hammer, Rhinos 2, Calday 12, Ocelots 3
6 points - Flux 1, 6FFU, Arctic 6
5 points - Rhinos 1, AirBadgers 2
4 points - AirBadgers 3
3 points - Arctic 2
2 points - Ocelots 1, Calday 11, Arctic 3
1 point - Arctic 1, Calday 13, Ocelots 2, Jesus Loves Spartans
0 points - nobody, thankfully!

So good work to both Brighton teams clocking up lots of votes.

Apologies for the lack of score boards, and lack of trophies - I have all the
necessary addresses to which I shall post the trophies when they arrive. Can
somebody from Calday and Rhinos let me know whether you will be represented at
Under 17 indoors in a couple of weeks time, because if you are I could just hand
over the trophies to you then rather than post them. Let me know.

Lost property - I am at home at the moment and appear to have left this on the
minibus at school, but there really wasn't very much. I'll email what it is when
I get hold of it, and will post (or bring to U17s) anything that is claimed.

I think that is it. See some of you at Under 17 Indoors in a couple of weeks
(details to follow)

Hello,

Just a quick one - are these trials just for the u19s squad or the u17s too? If not, are there any plans for the u17s? It might have an affect on which team some players try out for

The schedule is now written, based on 28 teams. We currently have 27 teams
entered but are waiting to hear if Discy Business are going to get a team
in. If not, OAPs (coaches and any overage players) will be entering a team
to make up the numbers, but lose every game by default.

There is no captain's meeting but you should send someone to Vaughnie
between 09:00 and 09:15 (assuming you are there because you have an early
game) to pick up your copies of the schedule. First games start at 9:30 on
the Saturday and 9am on the Sunday. Last games will finish at 17:30 both
days. These are the start times for individual teams...

09:30 Arctic 1, Airbadgers 2, Ocelots 1, Arctic 2, Airbadgers 1, Calday 2
09:50 Catch Those, Ocelots 2, Evolution 1, Rhinos 2, Flux 1, Arctic 3
10:10 Evolution 2, Flux 2, Calday 3, Arctic 5, Ocelots 3, Arctic 6
10:30 NC Hammer, Jesus loves Spartans, Rhinos 1, Airbadgers 3, Arctic 4,
OAPs
11:30 Strangers, Candy, 6FFU
11:50 Calday 1

The one change could be if Discy Business enter, they would take the place
of Calday 1 to give them the latest start time, and Calday 1 would replace
OAPs..

For reference, most teams will play 5 games of 18 minutes each day. However,
Flux 2, Arctic 5 and Arctic 6 (and OAPs) will play 6 games on the Saturday
and 4 on the Sunday. The format is 4 pools of 7 (with one game, possibly
your most important, being held over until Sunday morning). Top 4 teams from
each pool go into the knockout tournament while the bottom 2 of each pool
play off to leave 4 teams playing round robin in positions 25-28. That
leaves 8 teams to play knockout for 17-24. Trophies will be awarded for 1st,
2nd, 3rd, 9th, 17th and 25th, along with spirit. The trophies have been
ordered but won't arrive until after the tournament so don't be surprised if
the trophies initially look like boxes of celebrations, and the real
trophies being posted out a few days later. Teams will be asked on Sunday to
vote for their 3 votes for spirit (3, 2 and 1 points). Much as we love the
complicated new spirit system, we're sticking to something simple for
indoors.

There are 3 halls in use all weekend with a 4th hall available at times for
players to throw around in. Lookfly will be there on Sunday with their stall
of merchandise, bring some money!

I think that's about it. If there are any problems with the schedule/start
times, please email me. Anything else, talk to Vaughnie. I haven't included
a list of the seedings as any changes now would affect the start times, but
if you really want to know more because you feel your team is seeded at
least 10 places out from where you should be, then email me.

Kevin (on behalf of Vaughnie).

Subject: Accomodation for Junior Nationals

Hi All

Sorry to have been off the radar of late - was away in the States for 10 days
at half term, followed immediately by 3 days of insane Ofsted pressure at
school. All that has been successfully negotiated, so looking forward to this
weekend now.

Below is what I have on my records for those who have said they want
accomodation:

Catch Those - 3 people, both nights
Jesus Loves Spartans - 6 people, Sat only
Brighton - 16 people, Sat only
NC Hammer - 9 people, both nights
6FFU - 6-8 people, both nights
(and Discy Business, I had 7 people for both nights, but now sounds like you'll
only need Saturday night if you come at all)

Please could you confirm these details. ANY PROBLEMS / OMISSIONS let me know
ASAP. Those of you arriving on Friday could you please send me a couple of names
and mobile numbers for people in your team, and your ETC in Wolverhampton on
Friday evening. I haven't been able to contact tonight Maxine who runs the
Codshall Village Hall (Wolverhampton Rd, WV8 1PW), but as I won't be there
whoever arrives first will need to meet her to get the key and let yourselves
in, and then be around/contactable to ensure that others can get hold of you to
let yourselves in. Once I know when everyone plans to get there, I'll email you
all the phone numbers, and also the number for Maxine. A reminder that whoever
has the key has to be an adult, responsible for the state of the hall etc. Don't
mess it up! Also, on the Saturday night I think there is a function booked in 2
of the 3 rooms that we can use that will go on until about midnight. Obviously
we are not welcome to
gatecrash or interfere with that, though we can go into the 3rd room and hang
out until the function is over, and then go occupy the other 2 rooms to sleep
in.

Please be careful and respectful - I'm using the same place for accomodation at
Under 17 Indoors 3 weekends later and don't want to upset them.

Kev will be sending out the schedule shortly.

I'll circulate a Captain's pack type email when I get a moment.

Cheers
Vaughnie

With the schedule hopefully being written this Sunday (please don't ask on

and alterations for this year's junior indoors. Last year a certain team
pulled out their second team of both national indoors and national outdoors
after the schedules had been written. This cannot happen again! If there is
any danger that you may be short of players, then please let me and Vaughnie
know now so we can factor that risk into the seedings and schedule. We will
be pushing for teams to be banned if they stitch up the schedule this year
unless they have done everything in their power to avoid the situation and
let us know at the earliest possible time.

Likewise, if you have any pickups or are combining with another team, this
must be approved by the junior bids committee before the tournament. Last
year, there were a couple of situations that arose that were against the
spirit of the game and should at the very least have had prior approval.
Please don't put us in a position where a team could be disqualified on the
day because no one thought it was necessary to seek approval. Pickups that
were approved last year and still hold this year include Stourbridge joining
up with Arctic (closest geographical team and Stourbridge unable to field a
whole team) and Joshie playing for Ocelots. If there are any others that
we've forgotten about then please let me know.

Kevin.

Hi All

Confirmed expressions of interest now from the following. Please check where you
are on here, and it is also essential that I have written down your accomodation
requests as I need to sort that this week too.

Cheques received (with thanks!):

Catch Those (I team) - requested accomodation for 10 - Saturday only I presume?
Jesus Loves Spartans (x1)
Thundercatch (x1)
Calday Grammar (x3)
Rhinos (x2)
Evolution (x2)
Badgers (x3)

Cheques not yet recieved:

NC Hammer (x1) - they don't have chequebooks, paying cash on the day!
Accomodation sorted locally or required?
Ocelots (x3-5 teams) - can you confirm soon? But you'll probably be writing the
schedule anyway...! - no accomodationr required
Brighton (x2) - cheque not yet received, but has been sent - require
accomodation for 17 on Saturday
Flux (x2) - cheque not yet received, but have spoken to Beavan - do you need
accomodation?
Arctic (x6?) need to get my own house in order

So if Ocelots bring 4 and I bring 6 (both tbc), that would be 28 teams. Anyone
else want in?? Speak NOW or forever hold your peace (until next year!)

Cheers

Vaughnie

Hi All

The deadlines for both expressions of interest and receipt of cheques have now
passed. The state of play as it stands:

Cheques received (with thanks!):

Catch Those (I team)
Calday Grammar (x3)
Jesus Loves Spartans (x1)

Expressions of interest:

Ocelots (x3-5 teams)
Brighton (x2)
Evolution (x2)
Flux (x2)
NC Hammer (x1)
Psychedelic Rhinos (x2)

That makes 18 teams listed, and with Arctic teams added we have well over 20
teams expressing an interest. Please can you make sure I get the money by this
Friday so I can pay the venue. I am not going to use the cheques that have
arrived on time as a deposit to then find that they are non-returnable if the
rest of you don't pay up on time. I will just cancel.

There is the possibility of Mediocre Turbo from Latymer as well, though they
might just come to U17 a few weeks later. I have also heard from Stourbridge who
can't make it. Among the notable absentees are Air Badgers and Manor - Paul and
Tom could you confirm whether or not you are coming.

Thanks

Vaughnie

ps Details for U17s will follow shortly. It'll be pretty much the same drill but
I'm hoping to make it a bit cheaper - depends on whether I run this at a loss
though. Book the weekend and get planning your teams now though, it's the
weekend of 21/2 March.

Dear All

The Junior Indoor Championships 2009 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village,
Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW) on the weekend of Saturday 28th February and Sunday 1st
March. UKUA Indoor Regionals were held at Aldersely in November 2008 and a
number of Junior teams that attended that tournament can vouch that it is a
great venue. Anticipating a high demand for this tournament I have 4 halls
booked for both days. The halls are a really good size, and there is balcony
space and a cafe/bar onsite, as well as supermarkets nearby.

To be eligible to compete you must be born on or after 1st January 1990. If you
are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it
should be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone
involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your
situation to the Junior Forum (email to: kev@... is sufficient) and
have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. At
Junior Outdoors 2008 there were cases of players picking up for teams which were
neither approved, nor the most appropriate. Please go through the correct
systems.

I am hoping that the central location will mean that the majority of teams might
be able to travel home rather than needing accomodation on the Saturday night,
but I recognise that for some of you that won't be possible. Obviously you are
free to organise your own plans, and places like www.travelodge.co.uk often have
good deals (e.g. family rooms which could sleep 4 from £19 per night), and there
are a smattering of Youth Hostels in Staffordshire www.yha.org.uk However I do
have some options for accomodation - I have an arrangement with a village hall
in Codshall just a few miles away where there is a room that would sleep 20, a
couple of (tiled floor) changing rooms that would get a team in each, and (on
the Saturday only after midnight when another function ends) a huge hall and
lounge that would fit loads. I am trying to get hold of a lady who runs bookings
at another church hall in Codshall to see if that might be available as well. If
you are
interested in this let me know ASAP and I can work out he best way to fit people
in - one responsible adult would be required to collect and look after the key.
It goes without saying that participants and coaches would be expected to treat
the venue and other users with consideration and respect. This accomodation
would be included in the entry fee. No food would be provided though.

The tournament is going to cost £80 per team. If you want to come can you do the
following things, ASAP:
1. Email me with your teamname, contact details, and how many teams you hope to
bring. Let me know if you might be interested in accomdation at this stage. Do
this by Friday 23rd.
2. Send a cheque made payable to 'Andrew Vaughan' for the appropriate amount to
me at 12 Court Farm Road, Birmingham, B23 5ND. Remember to write your team name,
and contact name and number on the back. Do this by Friday 30th.

I know it is a short turnaround, but the preliminary details have already been
posted on the Junior list so you should know about it and hopefully be making
plans already. I need to know demand ASAP as there is no point me paying for the
4 halls if we do not need them all, and if I want to cancel one without
incurring a coast I have to do it by next week.

Any problems do not hesiate to contact me on this email or 07791 368786 (usually
turned off during the school day)

Cheers
Vaughnie
