Please pass this on to anyone who you think needs this message:

This email concerns any Ultimate player born in the year 1989 or earlier,
who lives in Great Britain.

Please read all of this email.

The Great Britain Junior Open squad is having open try-outs on the Saturday
February 16th, In Birmingham.

The date was chosen because transport links run more often on a Saturday.

The location was chosen because Birmingham is easy to get to and is in the
middle(ish) of the country.

The days training will start at 11am.

By this I mean the running part of the warm-up will start then, so you
should be there, ready to go no later than 10:55, I would aim to be there
at 10 / 10:30 if you want to throw around and faff with boots and plasters,
knee braces and ibuprofen.

The day will break at 13:00 (ish) for lunch, for 30 minuets. I would advise
brining food to snack on, and eat at lunch. Training at this level all day
will quickly use up your energy stores and you will become unfocused and
tired quickly.

The day will end at 16:00, if you need to leave any earlier to catch a
train, then please inform me (by email or text) before the day, otherwise I
will hold it against your as poor preparation.

Attendance at this training is, required. Not coming because of another
reason proves you have the wrong attitude for this team. There are no exams
on a Saturday, injured players can stand on the sideline, and there is
plenty of time to book low cost travel. So let’s hope no one dies and you
don’t get so sick you can’t make it out of bed to the toilet. This IS the
event that we make our choices based on.

What to expect;

The trail will consist of a number of tests, drills and games. We will be
testing your ability to perform the most basic of tasks and show your
levels of fitness, your ability to decision make under pressure and when
you are fatigued.

Expect drills that will show us your strengths and weaknesses in throwing.

(An analogy I often use is; you wouldn’t find a football player who
couldn’t pass a ball to his team mates, so you shouldn’t find an Ultimate
player who could not do the same)

Expect fitness tests that will show us your stronger and weaker aspects of
sports based fitness.

(Players who are willing to give everything they have is who we want to be
a part of our team)

Expect games where you can show us what you’re made of, by playing safe and
working hard. “Heroes don’t make teams, teams make heroes”

You will also be tested on your knowledge and more importantly your
UNDERSTANDING of the rules. Ultimate Frisbee is a self officiated game, and
knowing the rules to use them fairly is the reasonability of every player.
So print your self a copy of the rules and make it your bed time reading.

Here is a list of things we will be looking for in players;

Attitude.

Fitness, and a high level is expected.

Ability to be a part of a team, working for and with one another.

Ability to execute throws in all weather conditions.

Willingness and ability to learn, (this is important because how you play
ultimate in your club, will probably differ to how we want you to be
playing)

FOCUS!
